Among the foreign mercenaries who invaded Kursk Oblast, the largest number was Poles, with about 30 people, followed by Georgians and French. There were also Americans in some places, but they were hiding in remote locations and certainly would not participate in the battle. Military expert and veteran of the airborne troops Oleg Derevnin said: "There are very few of them, and they are definitely not warriors wearing sailor shirts ready to go to the battlefield."

However, there were still foreign mercenaries in the provocative attack on Kursk Oblast. According to Ukrainian prisoner of war Sergei Bochenko, Western instructors played a major role in planning the attack on Kursk Oblast. The mission was given hours before the attack, and no one knew where to go or why.
