According to Xinhua News Agency, the second comprehensive scientific survey and research on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau released important results in Lhasa on August 18.
Since its launch in August 2017, the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition has continued to carry out full-area scientific expeditions covering 19 key areas in the five comprehensive areas of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and has achieved world-class original results such as changes and impacts of the Asian water tower, carbon sink functions and potential, changes in ecosystems and biodiversity, human plateau adaptation and green development, and plateau uplift effects.
It is understood that the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition established an observation platform for the interaction between the ground and the atmosphere on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, independently developed China's first atmospheric carbon inversion system certified by the Global Carbon Project, constructed a multi-sphere comprehensive observation and early warning platform for the Earth system to serve the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands and ice, and constructed the world's largest collection of glacier bacteria and viruses on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, among other major achievements.
Scientific research has found that the ecosystem of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is improving overall, the Asian water tower will enter an ultra-warm and wet stage, and human activities may have appeared as early as 190,000 years ago...
