The 2024 National Youth Information Literacy Competition is hosted by the China Electronics Society and organized by the Tongxiang Municipal People's Government, with the theme of "Science and Technology Youth Build Dreams for the Future."
Zhang Feng, secretary of the Party Committee of the China Electronics Society Council, said that improving the overall scientific literacy of young people is crucial to building a strong country in science and technology and consolidating the talent base for building a strong country in science and technology. We must work together to create a better scientific education environment for young people, so that they can be exposed to, understand and love science from an early age, and constantly cultivate scientific spirit and innovation awareness. By participating in the National Youth Information Literacy Competition, they will gain valuable scientific and technological knowledge and experience, which will not only broaden their horizons and enrich their thinking, but also allow them to continue to grow and improve in cooperation and exchanges.
Yu Huiyou, secretary of the Tongxiang Municipal Party Committee, said in his speech that Tongxiang is the permanent venue for the World Internet Conference. We look forward to seeing the future of the world's Internet here, and we also look forward to seeing the future of China's Internet among young people. Since last year, Tongxiang has successively hosted large-scale youth science and innovation events such as the 2023 National Youth Information Literacy Competition Finals, the 2023 Wuzhen International Education Robot Festival and the ENJOY AI 2023 Global Finals. This year, in addition to the 2024 National Youth Information Literacy Competition Finals, there will also be important events such as the National Youth Artificial Intelligence Innovation Challenge and the "Wuzhen Cup" Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The two elements of "youth" and "informatization" make people full of expectations and unlimited imagination.
This year's competition adopts a three-level competition system of preliminary, semi-final and final. Prior to this, the contestants in each competition area had already gone through two rounds of competitions in May and July. According to the organizing committee, more than 220,000 young people participated in this competition nationwide, an increase of more than 80% year-on-year; there were 15,000 semi-finalists who advanced to the finals in Wuzhen, an increase of 50% year-on-year; the number of participants reached a record high. Among them, the graphical programming challenge and the Python programming challenge are the two types of competitions with the most registrations in this competition, with more than 7,000 people advancing to the finals, reflecting the current society's high attention and widespread concern for programming education. This year, Hong Kong and Macao formed a group to participate in the finals of the "Unmanned Underwater System Challenge" for the first time.
The competition items of this competition are divided into three official competition categories and one directional invitational competition category. The official competition includes 17 events in three categories: intelligent application, algorithmic thinking, and independent innovation. The competition items include the intelligent transporter open source challenge, open source Hongmeng engineering competition, electronic innovation design competition, Mars survival challenge, Tiangong Kaiwu challenge and other projects, which are very challenging and enjoyable to watch. Among them, the unmanned aerial vehicle theme competition is a competition item that has been carried out since 2017, including obstacle races and programming competitions. According to Yang Jin, deputy director of the Science Popularization and Training Department of the China Electronics Society and secretary-general of the competition organizing committee, drones are a kind of information technology teaching carrier that students like very much, and the application scenarios are very broad. Especially in the context of vigorously developing the low-altitude economy, the study of unmanned aerial vehicles has a better development prospect. There are two directional invitational competitions, mainly for the verification of information technology levels for rural primary and secondary schools and special education groups. The main venue of the competition is located in the Wuzhen Internet Light Expo Center, and there are three sub-venues, which are located in the Wuzhen campus of Zhejiang Media College, Tongxiang Technician College and Li Ning Sports Park.
As one of the important academic exchange activities of the 2024 National Youth Information Literacy Competition, the "Seminar on the Development of Digital Literacy for Primary and Secondary School Students" will be held at the World Internet Science and Technology Museum in Wuzhen on the 18th. Experts and scholars in related fields such as education and science popularization will focus on the theme of "Smart Education, Digital Future-Cultivating the Innovation Ability and Digital Literacy of Young People in the New Era" and give keynote speeches, application sharing and roundtable forums.
