Economic Daily reporter Qiao Wenhui
After the beginning of autumn, driving on the "139 Poplar Secret Self-Driving Highway" in Shaya County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, the road is lined with poplars, winding into the distance, and the further you go, the greener it becomes. This is just like the development trajectory of the characteristic industries in Aksu Prefecture: constantly making breakthroughs on a not-so-straight road, and embarking on a path of green upgrading.
In Aksu Prefecture, located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the northern edge of the Tarim Basin, the oasis area is greener and the desert Gobi is greener. Behind this is not only the unremitting efforts of the local government to continuously strengthen ecological construction, but also a vivid practice of promoting green development of the industry. Wang Lei, deputy director of the Aksu Regional Ecological Environment Bureau, said that through comprehensive measures such as energy reduction, coal reduction, enterprise management, dust reduction, vehicle control, and greening, pollutant emissions have been effectively reduced, and Aksu's development is clearly moving towards a new green trend.
Statistics show that last year, the GDP of Aksu region increased by 6.3% over the previous year, industrial added value increased by 9.6%, and the added value of strategic emerging industries increased by 32.7%; at the same time, the annual afforestation area reached 19,700 hectares, the forest coverage rate rose to 9.1%, and the green coverage rate of urban built-up areas reached 43.3%, achieving a simultaneous increase in economic volume and ecological quality.
Empowering with new
Photovoltaic panels are neatly arranged in a Gobi Desert in Kuche City, Aksu Prefecture. This photovoltaic power station is an important part of the Kuche green hydrogen demonstration project in Xinjiang. The electricity produced is used to produce hydrogen, and the hydrogen produced will be transported to Sinopec Tahe Refining and Chemical Co., Ltd. to replace natural gas hydrogen production, thus realizing the integration of photovoltaic power generation, green electricity transmission, green electricity hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation, green hydrogen refining and other green hydrogen production applications, and the whole process is connected.
As my country's first 10,000-ton green hydrogen refining project, the Kuche Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project was fully completed and put into operation in August last year. It is a key green hydrogen demonstration project of Sinopec. The project is operated by Sinopec New Star Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd., and Mao Yanyun, general manager of the company, said: "The project produces 20,000 tons of hydrogen per year, replacing the original natural gas hydrogen production device of Tahe Refinery, which can reduce the use of natural gas by about 100 million cubic meters per year."
In recent years, Aksu Prefecture has insisted on empowering characteristic industries with new projects, new technologies, and new processes, promoting the greening of industrial chains, and realizing the "new branches and green leaves" of the industrial tree.
On the basis of creating a new path for green hydrogen refining, the byproduct oxygen in the hydrogen production process of the Kuche green hydrogen demonstration project will also be fully utilized. Fang Hu, a hydrogen energy project management expert at Sinopec New Star Petroleum Co., Ltd., said that Kuche is planning to build projects with an eye on oxygen application, extending the industrial chain by "making the most of" byproducts.
Like Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd., Xinjiang Yuxiang Populus euphratica Chemical Co., Ltd. in Shaya County, Aksu Prefecture will also launch a photovoltaic hydrogen production project. Zhou Jishuang, deputy general manager of the company, said that they use natural gas as the main raw material to produce melamine, urea, nitro compound fertilizer and other products. After the first phase of the photovoltaic hydrogen production project is put into operation, it will generate considerable economic and social benefits.
In addition to reconstructing the upstream production line with green projects, Xinjiang Yuxiang Huyang Chemical Co., Ltd. is also planning to green downstream production. The company uses the abundant local natural gas as raw material to produce synthetic ammonia, which is then used to produce melamine and nitro compound fertilizer. The ammonia required for the production of nitro compound fertilizer comes from the tail gas produced by the production of melamine.
In addition, in order to achieve efficient use of nitro compound fertilizer, Xinjiang Yuxiang Populus euphratica Chemical Co., Ltd. has also developed a liquid fertilizer intelligent fertilization system to promote the application of water-fertilizer integration technology. "Farmers can operate this system with their mobile phones, which not only saves time and effort, but also greatly improves the fertilizer absorption rate of crops and saves water resources. At present, 160 sets have been promoted and applied, and users have given good feedback. We will continue to increase the promotion efforts in the future." Zhou Jishuang told reporters.
From green to gold
It is hard to imagine that the 3,000 mu of lush orchards with more than a dozen varieties of apples, walnuts, apricots, plums, peaches, etc., protected by a fully enclosed windbreak system consisting of about 350,000 poplars and Elaeagnus trees, used to be a desert with hundreds of sandbags, a wind outlet in Kuche City, Aksu Prefecture, where sandstorms raged when the wind blew.
In order to improve the ecological environment, Xinjiang Zhangshengguo Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., founded in July 2011, took root in the Gobi Desert and planned to use forests to support forests and control sand to get rich. The company used three years to complete land leveling, infrastructure construction, soil improvement and windbreak planting, and began to plant various special fruit trees in 2016. An Cunzheng, general manager of the company, said: "We have tried many solutions. After unremitting efforts, the Gobi Desert has begun to turn into an oasis. It is expected that the orchard will achieve an annual sales income of 90 million yuan and a profit of 20 million yuan in the high-yield period."
An Cunzheng said that only by continuously extending the industrial chain can forestry and fruit take root and further consolidate the results of sand control. Xinjiang Zhangshengguo Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. vigorously develops forest breeding and leisure economy, making money from forests and greenery, and better achieving a win-win situation of ecological and economic benefits.
During an interview in Aksu, the reporter learned that promoting the development of green industrial chains has become one of the important measures for improving the local ecological environment and taking the path of green development. In practice, the region has gradually explored the "forestry-forestry" model, cultivated the nationally famous "Aksu Bingtangxin" apple and other fruit industries, and the forestry and fruit industry has continued to extend to fruit processing, leisure picking and other directions.
At the 10,000-mu Haloxylon ammodendron desertification control demonstration base in Gaizikumu Township, Shaya County, Aksu Prefecture, large tracts of Haloxylon ammodendron forests grow on the sand, presenting a vibrant scene. According to reports, the desert area in Shaya County accounts for about 85% of the county's total area. The county has explored the planting of Haloxylon ammodendron and the cultivation of Cistanche deserticola in accordance with the "scientific research unit + enterprise + farmer" model, creating a demonstration area that integrates the display, sightseeing, education, scientific research, and production of Chinese medicinal materials in the sandy area, achieving green and prosperous development.
"From preventing and controlling sand to using sand, we are now starting to 'pan for gold' in the sand." Standing on the sandy land and Haloxylon ammodendron forest in Gaizikumu Township, Ren Penghui, general manager of Shaya County Moxin Development Co., Ltd., told reporters that Cistanche deserticola parasitizes on the roots of Haloxylon ammodendron and is a food and medicine crop. So far, the company has completed more than 20,000 mu of Haloxylon ammodendron planting, of which 18,000 mu have been inoculated with Cistanche deserticola, with an average income of 2,000 yuan per mu.
Relying on the planting base, Shaya County has developed a variety of Cistanche products. The reporter learned from Shaya County Jinhuyang Modern Agricultural Industry Development Group Co., Ltd. that the company has developed food, health products and cosmetics with Cistanche as the main raw material in batches, jointly with scientific research units and medical units, and has achieved good market prospects.
Towards high-end
The Aksu region is rich in resources. The proven geological reserves of oil are 3.121 billion tons and the natural gas reserves are 2.2 trillion cubic meters. The oil and natural gas reserves account for more than 80% and 90% of the proven reserves in the Tarim Basin respectively. It is the main gas source for the West-East Gas Transmission Project. The proven coal reserves are 5.366 billion tons, accounting for more than 90% of the proven reserves in southern Xinjiang.
Guarding the treasure pot and calculating the resource accounts, Aksu Prefecture insists on moving towards high-end and refined resource development and strives to release new momentum for green development.
Xinjiang Junxin Chemical Co., Ltd., located in Baicheng County, Aksu Prefecture, has built and put into operation a 100,000-ton new carbon material production facility and a 9,000-kilowatt exhaust gas waste heat power generation project by utilizing local advantageous resources. It has 3 invention patents and 70 utility model patents, and produces more than 10 kinds of carbon black products. Its products are widely used in aerospace, automobile tires, new energy lithium batteries, metallurgy and other fields.
The reporter learned that Xinjiang Junxin Chemical Co., Ltd. has continuously expanded the scope of school-enterprise cooperation, and the new projects jointly developed with universities have achieved large-scale production this year to produce high-performance carbon black products, which will further enhance the technological content of products and take a steady and practical path towards refined resource utilization.
The Baicheng Industrial Park, where Xinjiang Junxin Chemical Co., Ltd. is located, is dominated by the coal-salt chemical industry and is one of the autonomous region's coal-fired power, coal chemical, salt chemical, natural gas chemical, steel smelting, and agricultural and sideline products deep processing bases. The raw materials needed by the company come from Baicheng County Zhongtai Coal Coking Co., Ltd. in the same industrial park.
Baicheng County Zhongtai Coal Coking Co., Ltd. has built a circular economy industrial chain integrating coal, coke, chemical and electricity by taking the road of refined resource utilization. After the company's annual production of 200,000 tons of methanol project is put into production, coke oven gas will be turned into treasure. Feng Hua, general manager of the company, said that the company currently produces a kind of "relaxation gas" in the production process, which is now used as fuel and will become a raw material in the future, because a project under construction in the park is to use "relaxation gas" to produce synthetic ammonia.
In addition to mineral resources, Aksu Prefecture also makes fine use of tourism resources. Thanks to the nourishment of the Tarim River, Shaya County has 4.7 million mu of original poplar forests and is known as the "City of Poplars". The Tarim River Wetland Tourist Area, which integrates wetland poplars, Gobi poplars, desert poplars and water poplars, has been built into a comprehensive cultural landscape holiday tourist area by the local area, and is also the core scenic spot of the Shaya County World Poplar Forest Park.
"In recent years, Shaya County has carried out meticulous protection of poplar trees, accurately cultivated tourism businesses such as restaurants and homestays, and meticulously planned and carried out tourism activities with poplar elements, which has promoted the prosperity of the tourism industry. Statistics show that from January to July this year, the county received a total of 2.06 million domestic tourists, a year-on-year increase of 39%; tourism revenue reached 980 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 43%." said Muhetar Rehman, director of the Shaya County Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau.
