The WeChat official account of the Xi'an Institute of Microelectronics Technology released an obituary on the 16th: Comrade Shen Xubang, a member of the Communist Party of China, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a famous computer expert in my country, and a researcher at the Xi'an Institute of Microelectronics Technology of the China Academy of Space Electronics Technology, died in Xi'an at 1:43 am on August 16, 2024 at the age of 92 due to illness.

Public information shows that Shen Xubang is a computer design expert, a pioneer and advocate of China's chip computers, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a winner of the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Shen Xubang was born on January 10, 1933 in Linli, Hunan. In 1953, he was admitted to the Department of Mathematics of Wuhan University. In 1956, he joined the Party and was transferred to the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of Peking University to study computer science. In 1965, he was transferred to the 156th Engineering Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (the predecessor of the 771th Institute). In November 1997, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

According to the China Computer Society, in the late 1950s, Shen Xubang participated in the development of special microcomputers for the "two bombs and one satellite", and designed my country's first small-scale and medium-scale integrated circuit rocket-borne computers. He proposed a new method for multiple integral error correction, a new architecture of rocket-borne incremental computers, and a computer testing method for rocket control systems, achieving breakthrough technological innovations.

In the 1970s, in order to break the foreign embargo, he took the lead in conducting research on domestic integrated circuits and microcomputers with independent intellectual property rights, covering computer instruction sets, architecture, and logic design schemes. He successfully developed a large-scale integrated circuit 16-bit microcomputer, achieving a historic breakthrough in China's chip computers and keeping pace with the international level of computer development.

In the late 1980s, Shen Xubang began to design and research digital signal processor chips, fixed-point and floating-point 32-bit RISC microprocessor chips, 320 million times per second MPP system-level chips and MPP computers.

In the past 10 years, he has been committed to innovative research in computer application programming languages, design architectures, and system-level chip implementation technologies, naturally unifying computer space-time computing and fulfilling China's dream of independently designing computer system-level chips.

In 2016, Academician Shen Xubang won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the China Computer Society.
