During the mid-summer season, the temperature can reach 37 degrees Celsius, making it hard to breathe. But at the Jinan Civilian Militia Training Base, a 50-year-old "veteran" was not afraid of the heat, and was cleaning the weeds on the playground with sweat all over his face. When I got closer, I found that he was Han Huiyuan, a militia instructor at the base.
Han Huiyuan was a model soldier of the armed police force and had been awarded many times in his military career. In March 1997, after taking off his military uniform, he chose to be placed in the Jinan Civil Militia Training Center with his love for military life and respect for national defense, and worked there for 27 years. In 2021, he was awarded the title of "The Most Beautiful Retired Soldier in Jinan City" and in 2022, he was awarded the third-class merit by the General Office of the Jinan Municipal Government.
Speaking of Han Huiyuan, we have to say that he is naturally tough and dares to "fight with the bayonet" against setbacks. In June 2013, due to a sudden aortic rupture, he was rescued in the intensive care unit for 26 days before he passed the critical period, but he also left a fourth-level disability with impaired mobility of his right limb. The serious illness did not make Han Huiyuan retreat. After returning to work, he still regarded the unit as his home and devoted himself to his work. During that time, he was a support staff for the construction of the second phase of the center, and he was responsible for the construction of three new venues and the planning of various classrooms, including scheme design, production of facility drawings, and improvement of supporting facilities, all of which required him to do it himself. In order to complete the construction task on schedule, he gave up his weekends and holidays after recovering from a serious illness, inspected and supervised at the construction site, and tracked and guaranteed the entire process of the construction project. He said: "I don't have any other skills, but I have to fulfill my responsibilities and live up to this "camouflage green"!"
"Either don't do it, or do it well and make a name for yourself." This is the creed that Han Huiyuan has always adhered to. Faced with various problems encountered in engineering construction, he never regarded himself as an "outsider", but devoted himself to research and humbly learned. He successively obtained certificates such as construction engineer certificate, high and low voltage electrician certificate, and intermediate fire protection certificate. The construction suggestions he put forward have been adopted and recognized by the construction party many times. He also actively connected with the power supply unit to study issues such as high-voltage power line rerouting, and led the center staff to use their off-duty time to re-mark the camp roads and renovate the gates of the hospital area, saving the unit more than 3 million construction funds, making him a "jack of all trades" in everyone's mouth.
During a shooting competition, the automatic target reporting system broke down, and the on-site support staff looked anxious. At this critical moment, someone suggested: "Let Old Han do it!" A few minutes later, Han Huiyuan rushed over. He checked each sensor and data processing unit one by one and found that a sensor had failed. He quickly took out a spare part from the tool kit and after some operation, the automatic target reporting system returned to normal in a short while.
During a training session, a Type 95 automatic rifle suddenly broke down, instantly causing everyone to be in trouble. Han Huiyuan, who was on the scene, immediately stepped forward, skillfully set up the gun, and reset the bolt with a series of pushes and pulls. Everyone gave him approving looks. "I can easily repair any gun with a caliber below 7.62mm." Every leader of the training base believed in him: "You can learn a few more tricks by following Old Han."
He leads by example and rushes to do the dirty and tiring work. One Spring Festival, the sewer pipe at the training base burst. After learning the news, he gave up the opportunity to reunite with his family and rushed back to the unit to participate in the repair of the sewer pipe. He worked from the afternoon to the early morning, and his legs were even frozen and numb. The toilet in the comprehensive office building was blocked, and the cleaning staff failed to clear it many times. "I'll do it!" Han Huiyuan rolled up his sleeves and pulled out the blockage bit by bit with his hands. Everyone admired him for solving problems time and time again. "I have been a soldier, and I have done all kinds of dirty and tiring work." Faced with praise, Lao Han just answered with the simplest words.
"Only by always maintaining a charging posture and fulfilling one's duties at one's post can one live up to one's mission and take responsibility!" This is Han Huiyuan's motto and a true reflection of his work. Facing the heavy burden on his shoulders, Han Huiyuan said with determination: "I am still a soldier even after taking off my military uniform. I will continue to contribute to the national defense mobilization cause with practical actions and make new contributions!"
