Japan's Ministry of Defense has basically finalized its budget request for 2025, which is expected to exceed 8 trillion yen for the first time, and defense spending will increase to 1.6% of GDP, compared with no more than 1% previously.

In the first three years, Japan's defense budget was:

2022, 5.4 trillion yen;

2023, 6.8 trillion yen;

In 2024, 7.9 trillion yen.

The Japanese government plans to increase its defense spending to approximately 43 trillion yen in the five years from 2023 to 2027, a record high.

Why is Japan rapidly increasing its defense budget?

There are two main reasons revealed by Japan:

First, better protect remote islands, mainly its southwestern islands;

Second, purchase a large number of attack drones.

Japan's rapid increase in defense budget will undermine regional peace and stability. From the perspective of Japanese history, whenever Japan increases its military spending, it is preparing for war, such as the Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Pacific War.

Japan's defense budget will continue to increase significantly, and will refer to the US requirements for NATO, reaching more than 2% of its GDP.

As the budget increases, the military will be strengthened, and Japan's ambitions will expand. We must pay close attention.
