BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Secret Service has stepped up security for former President and Republican presidential candidate Trump, CNN reported, citing people familiar with the matter, and plans to provide him with bulletproof glass protection when he attends campaign rallies, a security measure usually used for incumbent presidents.

The Secret Service will "pre-position" bulletproof glass at locations where Trump is expected to attend campaign events leading up to the presidential election in November. The bulletproof glass can be used outdoors or indoors as needed.

A senior U.S. official said that additional measures for Trump's security also include increasing the number of agents and specific technical means. From the perspective of logistics support, this is a "major project." For security reasons, the official declined to provide more details. These measures were launched after Trump was assassinated last month, and some have already been implemented.

The U.S. Secret Service has not yet responded to media reporters' inquiries regarding the above content.

On the evening of the 13th of last month, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania, fired several shots at Trump from the roof of a building about 140 meters away from the podium at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injuring Trump's right ear, killing one spectator and seriously injuring two others. Crooks was shot dead on the spot by Secret Service personnel. Secret Service Director Chittel later announced his resignation.

According to the New York Times, Trump's security has affected the security team of US President Biden. After Trump was assassinated, some members of Biden's security team were temporarily transferred to ensure the security of Trump's campaign activities. A Secret Service official said that such a practice is "rare."
