At 6:06 am on August 17, the G2195 train carrying 156 freshmen of the Class of 2024, parents and staff of Tongji University departed from Chengdu East Station and headed for Shanghai Hongqiao Station.

It is understood that this is a Tongji University "Tongchuang" special train event organized by the Tongji University Alumni Association of Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and Tibet in conjunction with the Tongji University Admissions Group and China Railway Chengdu Bureau Group Co., Ltd., to send freshmen of the class of 2024 from the five provinces (regions and cities) to the school free of charge.
"We hope that through this method, every Tongji student who has just arrived can feel the warmth of home, and let this sense of belonging become a solid backing for their future study and life." At the departure ceremony, Chen Gang, Secretary General of the Sichuan Tongji University Alumni Association, sent blessings to the freshmen. "I hope you can uphold the school spirit of 'rigorous, realistic, united, and innovative', study hard, and have the courage to explore. Not only will you achieve excellent academic results, but you will also develop comprehensively in moral cultivation, social practice and other aspects, and become pillars of society."
According to Chen Gang, this is not the first time that the Alumni Association of Tongji University in Sichuan Province has held a welcoming and farewell event. In 2022 and 2023, the Alumni Association used chartered flights and special trains to provide new students and their parents with a convenient and warm enrollment experience, which attracted great attention from all walks of life and achieved good social results.
When asked why the train departed from Chengdu, Chen Gang said that Sichuan is not only Tongji's "second hometown," but also one of the school's important sources of students. This year, Tongji University enrolled 248 undergraduates in Sichuan, nine more than last year. "So Chengdu is more representative."

During the 13-hour journey, the school not only arranged delicious meals with Sichuan and Shanghai flavors for the freshmen, but also designed a variety of activities. Zhang Xin, associate professor of the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University, brought everyone a special train course "How AGI will shape our world", so that the freshmen can understand Tongji University's artificial intelligence, an emerging major at the forefront of the country, and the latest development trends of artificial intelligence. In addition, there are activities and arrangements such as passing the flower with drums, performances, and senior students explaining the information for freshmen to enter the school.
It is reported that after the train arrives in Shanghai, Tongji University will arrange teachers from relevant colleges and buses to safely send the students to school.
