Recently, I saw a couple's home. It was so unique. This large single room on the top floor not only had three curved bay windows, but also led to the rooftop terrace through the balcony outside the bedroom. It was so comfortable for two people to live there. Let's take a look.

Antwi and JeffIn the first half of the year, he bought a top-floor "big studio" in Brooklyn, which is about 640 square feet, which is about 59 square meters.

Although the overall area is not large, it is still a "large single room" for a one-bedroom and one-living room apartment. After the two of them renovated the house, the original old, dilapidated and run-down feeling was changed into a warm and comfortable home.

59㎡ "large studio" apartment

Let’s first talk briefly about how this large studio apartment is arranged.

▲Floor plan of a 59㎡ studio

Speaking of which, the house layout is quite square. Except for the three curved bay windows protruding outwards from the dining room, the rest of the space is in order.

  • The entrance hall is an open space connected to the kitchen, with a dark bathroom on the other side. Some of the personal belongings carried in and out of the house are stored on the side of the movable bar, while shoes, hats, bags and clothes are all stored in the equipment room.
  • Walking in, the room is divided into two parts. The living room is relatively narrow. After placing the long sofa and the tall TV cabinet, there is space for a small coffee table in the middle. Walking to the end, there are three curved bay windows in the house, and a dining table is placed here.
  • The bedroom door is next to the TV wall. When you enter, you can see a large mirror at the head of the bed to increase the spaciousness and airiness of the space. Walking up the stairs along the balcony next to the bed, you can reach the rooftop terrace, which is equivalent to the balcony at home.

The entrance hall is simple and clean

The entrance hall can really be described as simple and clean. There is not even a hallway cabinet here.

▲The location at the entrance

An oval dressing mirror is hung behind the door, which can just fill the redundant wall between the bathroom door and the house door. Although there is no space to install a hallway cabinet, fortunately the original apartment has an equipment room, which is just right for making a closet for storage.

The closet can be used to store wallets, keys, bags and other items that you carry with you when you enter and leave the house. It can also be used to store cleaning supplies such as mops and hardware tools. After closing the door of the equipment room, the clutter is hidden inside.

L-shaped open kitchen in the corner

The open kitchen is placed next to the entrance and is attached to the wall in an L-shape.

▲Kitchen corner cabinet

The white wall cabinets and base cabinets match each other to store the dishes and cutlery that Antvi and Jeff need on a daily basis. The cabinets are also neatly organized, making it very convenient to take and put things away. In addition, the stove is replaced with an induction cooker, which makes the countertop look much tidier.

The oven and refrigerator are all embedded in this set of cabinets. Even the washing machine has a separate laundry cabinet. The cabinet body is connected to the cabinets and the style echoes them. Once the cabinet door is closed, there is a strong sense of unity.

Oh yes, I personally like to replay the terrazzo wall in the middle part. It not only neutralizes the coldness and monotony of the pure white cabinets, but also has a good waterproof and oil-proof effect. It can be said to be the finishing touch in the kitchen.

Movable kitchen bar

In the middle of the open kitchen, there is a simple bar instead of an island, which is made movable.

▲The bar in the middle of the kitchen

Compared to many kitchen islands that cannot be moved, this bar table can not only replace the island counter function to place dishes and cutlery, but can also be moved to the side when not in use and used as a soft partition between the kitchen and the living room, which is much more flexible to use.

Before going out in the morning, the couple often sits at this bar table to eat and chat, or plays games or works at the bar table during the weekend. This small table has many functions.

The living room is narrow but practical

It can be said that although the living room in the couple’s home is narrow, it is very practically decorated.

▲Layout of the living room

The sofa, coffee table and TV wall are the classic three-piece set of the living room. The coffee table is just a little smaller in size, so it is enough to put a cup, a remote control and other items. There is even space for a single sofa next to it.

The TV wall opposite was also built using a squeezed space, making room for the bedroom door and the dining table area, and placing a tall cabinet with the TV on top and storage inside. Everything looks just right, clean and tidy with a sense of design.

▲Wooden grille behind the sofa

The wooden grille behind the sofa is just right as a background wall. At the same time, the wood tone style also avoids the white wall being too monotonous and cold. With an arc-shaped mirror next to the sofa, the background wall decoration is just right.

The sofa itself is foldable. By pushing away the coffee table and unfolding it, it can also be turned into a double bed. It is quite comfortable to lie on it. When family or friends come to stay overnight, there is also a place for them to sleep.

Three curved bay windows surround the dining table

In my opinion, the living room with an arc-shaped bay window surrounded by three windows is the finishing touch of the house.

▲The small round dining table in the restaurant

The living room extends to the end and is an arc-shaped space surrounded by glass windows on three sides. Although the area is not large, the lighting and ventilation are very good. It also makes this 59㎡ large single room appear less dark and depressing.

The round dining table is placed just right in the curved bay window. Compared with many square spaces, round tables that usually take up space are obviously more suitable for this space. The most important thing is that the light shines into the dining table through the window, making the entire restaurant exceptionally bright.

The bay window sill is extended and can be used for sitting and resting. On weekdays, Antvi likes to sit here to look at the scenery outside and drink tea. Life in this large single room feels a bit more relaxed.

Large single bedroom spacious enough

The only bedroom in the house has a door next to the TV wall.

▲The small door next to the TV

The space in the bedroom is actually not that big. You enter it from the small door next to the TV. There is an irregular large glass mirror next to the bed. On the one hand, it can be used as a dressing mirror with the wardrobe next to it, and on the other hand it can also visually expand the space.

The color tone in the bedroom is also soft, and there are various hanging racks all around, which can be used to place plants and ornaments. The rest of the space is left blank as much as possible to make the bedroom look less crowded.

▲Computer table at the bedside

The shelf at the head of the bed is very interesting. It is made into a suspended computer desk. The computer is placed on the desktop and a chair is placed underneath. It can be used as a desk and as a place to dress up and write. It does not take up much space but is very practical.

The wardrobe on the other side is floor-to-ceiling with open compartments and hidden drawers. The door next to it is actually a closet with a large space inside, which is just right for storing some seldom-used clothes and bedding.

Go up the stairs outside the bedroom to the roof terrace

There is a door next to the bedroom that leads to a small outside balcony and a large terrace on the roof.

Antvi placed a set of outdoor tables and chairs here. Sitting here and looking outside the balcony, you can see the scenery of the city streets and the sky with clouds floating above your head. The view is really great.

When you have free time, you can invite a few friends to sit here and chat and enjoy the breeze. It is so comfortable. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Antvi and Jeff chose this large studio on the top floor!

Make dry and wet partitions in the dark bathroom

Finally, let me briefly talk about the bathroom in my home. It is a dark bathroom without windows.

The bathroom is directly opposite the kitchen and is relatively smaller in size. As you enter the door, a side washbasin cabinet is squeezed in between the doors and combined with a mirror cabinet for storage, which can hold all kinds of sundries and cleaning supplies in the home.

The bathroom is divided into dry and wet areas, and is separated by a glass hanging rail door, which can keep water stains in the bathroom when taking a shower. Although there is no window, a high-power ventilation fan is installed above the bathroom to prevent the bathroom from being too humid.

Conclusion

Okay, we have finished talking about the 59-square-meter "big studio" of Antvi and Jeff. What do you think?

Personally, I feel that although the small house is not large, the decoration and layout are just right, especially the curved bay window dining table and the rooftop terrace leading to the bedroom, which are both eye-catching and really comfortable to live in!I wonder if you guys like this little home?
