China News Service, August 17. According to AFP, on the 16th local time, during a special meeting of the Turkish Parliament, dozens of lawmakers insulted and fought each other while discussing the removal of a member of parliament. At least two lawmakers were injured in the violent fight.

The brawl reportedly began when ruling AKP lawmaker Alpay Özalan threw a punch at opposition lawmaker Ahmet Sheik, who was criticizing the government over jailed lawmaker Can Atalay, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Supreme Court.

Other lawmakers then took action, sparking a violent brawl between dozens of lawmakers that lasted nearly half an hour, leaving at least two opposition lawmakers with minor eye injuries.

It was reported that when opposition lawmaker Sheke fell to the ground, other Justice and Development Party lawmakers rushed up and beat him, with blood splattering on the ground. The incident escalated into a physical conflict.

"I am ashamed to witness this situation. I call on the parliament speaker to immediately convene a meeting of the leaders of all party caucuses," said Özgül Özer, leader of Turkey's largest opposition Republican People's Party.

The pro-Kurdish People's Equality and Democratic Party said: "The AKP MPs who do not recognize the law and do not implement the Constitutional Court's ruling have turned the parliament into a violent arena. Their destructive behavior has once again shown no bottom line. We strongly condemn this."

The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament later said that the two lawmakers who caused the fight would be subject to relevant sanctions.
