At 12:00 on August 16, the three-and-a-half-month summer fishing moratorium ended in the South China Sea. Fishing boats moored along the coast of the South China Sea sounded their whistles, weighed anchor and set sail for fishing operations in the productive waters. So far, the maritime law enforcement departments of the three provinces (regions) in the South China Sea have successfully completed their 2024 fishing moratorium law enforcement mission.
During the fishing moratorium, the South China Sea Branch of the China Coast Guard coordinated the maritime law enforcement forces in the sea area, strengthened the control of important ports, key sea areas, and important time periods, combined special operations with normal control, severely investigated and dealt with illegal ships, maintained the order of the fishing moratorium, and protected marine fishery resources. The Coast Guard focused on major tasks, key areas, and key targets, adhered to the full-link, full-element, and full-chain strikes, refined the implementation of marine fishing moratorium supervision measures, increased law enforcement efforts, and increased the frequency of boarding and inspection, so that "all ships should be out and all fishing boats should be boarded and inspected", and continuously improved the rate of police presence and investigation and punishment at sea, and consolidated the "land, sea, air, and shore" integrated linkage control pattern.
It is understood that during this year's fishing moratorium, the South China Sea Branch of the China Coast Guard mobilized more than 11,000 coast guard ships and more than 30 aircraft to investigate and handle more than 200 domestic fishery-related cases, seized more than 390 illegal fishing boats and more than 350,000 kilograms of fish, and arrested more than 310 suspects of lawbreakers and crimes.
In the next step, the South China Sea Branch of the China Coast Guard will continue to strengthen marine fishery law enforcement, prevent overfishing after the fishing season begins, and consolidate and maintain the results of the fishing moratorium.
