China News Service, Chiang Mai, August 16 (Reporter Li Yingmin) On the 16th local time, China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand held an informal meeting of foreign ministers of the four countries in Chiang Mai, Thailand to discuss the issue of cross-border crime.

Wang Yi said that security is the premise and foundation for the development of all countries. The current regional security situation is evolving in a complex manner. Cross-border crimes such as online gambling and fraud are rampant, endangering the lives and property of people in the region and affecting social stability and the image of the country. Only when countries in the region increase joint crackdowns can the high incidence of illegal and criminal activities be effectively reversed. President Xi Jinping proposed a global security initiative, which received positive responses from countries including Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. On the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty, the four countries jointly carried out a series of activities to combat cross-border crimes. Since last year, the parties have cooperated to arrest more than 50,000 people involved in gambling fraud.

Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with all countries to take the global security initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping as a guide, increase joint efforts to combat cross-border criminal activities, and jointly protect the peace of our homeland. We must tighten the border control network, guard the borders of various countries, manage important ports well, and completely block the illegal crossing channels of criminals. We must facilitate the exchange of intelligence information, continue to carry out joint operations, and promptly bring to justice, repatriate and punish the criminals who have crossed the border. We must hold the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Ministerial Meeting as soon as possible, accelerate the "Safe Lancang-Mekong" operation, mobilize resources from all parties, integrate manpower, intelligence, technology, and equipment, coordinate the four countries' joint crackdown operations, and comprehensively improve the efficiency of cross-border cooperation. We must deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of law and justice, carry out judicial law enforcement training and coordinated training, and enhance the ability to combat and govern.

The four parties unanimously agreed to strengthen cooperation and close coordination, intensify efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as online gambling fraud, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, and jointly maintain regional peace and tranquility. (End)
