On August 16, the opening ceremony of the 2024 China (Guangdong)-RCEP Member States Cross-border E-commerce Exchange Conference and China (Guangzhou) Cross-border E-commerce Trade Fair (hereinafter referred to as "Cross-border E-commerce Trade Fair") was held in Guangzhou.
Zhang Jinsong, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce, pointed out that in recent years, Guangdong Province has found the right combination of "effective market + effective government", followed the trend and taken positive actions to promote the vigorous development of cross-border e-commerce, showing a trend of rapid growth in trade scale, improvement in the level of development platforms, diversified gathering of industrial ecology, and deepening international cooperation. He said that Guangdong will provide better services and sincerely welcome more high-quality cross-border e-commerce platforms and various enterprises at home and abroad to settle in Guangdong and take root in Guangdong.
Chu Shijia, director of the China Foreign Trade Center, said that the China Foreign Trade Center has always taken serving the overall national development and the development of the industry as its mission, and actively leveraged the strong cross-border e-commerce industry foundation and leading advantages of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City to establish the Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair in 2021. The exhibition area of ​​the 2024 Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair will exceed 40,000 square meters, with more than 1,000 high-quality companies from more than 20 provinces and cities participating in the exhibition. For the first time, a special area for emerging platforms and a special area for cross-border logistics and warehousing will be set up. Chu Shijia emphasized that the China Foreign Trade Center will use the exhibition platform as a starting point to further deepen cooperation with all parts of the country, enrich the exhibition formats of the Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair, innovate development mechanisms, expand open cooperation, better promote industrial upgrading, improve consumption quality, and lead the market, and strive to make new exhibition contributions to promoting high-quality business development.
Xie Weiguang, deputy secretary-general of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, pointed out that the Cross-border E-commerce Fair has become the cross-border e-commerce exhibition with the most participating platforms, the most concentrated top platforms, and the largest exhibition dividends in China. As a national central city, an international trade center, and the core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou is in full swing in the construction of a cross-border e-commerce comprehensive zone, and has extensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation with RCEP countries. From 2014 to 2023, the city's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports increased by 136 times, and the import scale has been ranked first in the country for 9 consecutive years. Xie Weiguang said that Guangzhou will anchor the benchmark pursuit of the vanguard, leader, and locomotive, and welcomes everyone to invest in Guangzhou and increase investment in Guangzhou.
Qiu Sheng, Vice President of Amazon Global Selling, appeared at the opening ceremony with a one-stop high-quality overseas solution and released the "All-round Innovation, High-quality Overseas Expansion-2024 China's Export Cross-border E-commerce Development Trend White Paper", which comprehensively analyzed the macro-industry development trends and micro-enterprise growth needs, and clearly stated that China's export cross-border e-commerce has entered a historical "new stage" of "high-quality overseas expansion". It also shared six specific innovation paths throughout products, technology, operations, supply chain, brand and business models, and is committed to providing practical insights and references for the majority of cross-border e-commerce companies to follow the path of "high-quality overseas expansion".
Wang Zhiqing, vice president of Guangzhou Shein International Import & Export Co., Ltd. (SHEIN), shared Shein's unique overseas expansion paths, including the "small order, quick response" model, multi-dimensional empowerment, and the "independent brand + platform" dual engine. It uses digital technology to drive suppliers to transform and upgrade, and while vigorously developing independent brands, it continues to expand platformization, driving small and medium-sized businesses, brands, and industrial belts across the country to go overseas through cross-border e-commerce. Wang Zhiqing said that Shein's development complements Guangdong's advantages, and in the future it will continue to give play to its own advantages to help more high-quality supply chain companies in Guangdong expand overseas markets and help more Guangdong brands go overseas.
At the event, representatives of the cross-border e-commerce industry association and enterprises jointly issued five initiatives to promote the development of cross-border e-commerce. The Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce issued an innovative case of "Cross-border e-commerce empowering industrial development".
