[Global Times reporter Liu Boyang] According to Russia Today (RT), Serbia's Minister of International Economic Cooperation and Other Affairs Popovic said in an interview published in Russia's "Bulletin" on the 15th that despite the huge pressure from the European Union, Serbia will never impose sanctions on Russia.
RT said that Popovic said that according to Brussels's request, if Serbia wants to join the European Union, it should "get inspiration" from the EU's policy towards Moscow, impose sanctions on Russia and stop cooperating with Russia. But he refuted this and said it was "completely unacceptable."
"Moscow has nothing to worry about, Serbia will never impose sanctions... No pressure, even continuous and strong pressure, will change (Belgrade's position)," Popovic said.
RT said that Popovich explained that recent polls showed that "the vast majority of our people oppose any sanctions against Russia." He also said that the proportion of people opposed to such measures may be as high as 90%.
Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the EU has announced a number of sanctions against Russia, covering energy, finance and other fields. Serbian President Vucic has repeatedly stated that he will not impose sanctions on Russia.
