British media reported on August 16 that in response to Ukraine's sudden invasion, Russia urgently recruited trench diggers on the employment website "Авито" to go to the Kursk region to build fortifications. According to the Russian Business Consulting Daily, the Kursk State Government said that the advertisements for recruiting trench diggers were fake. At present, "Авито" has removed these advertisements, and the company spokesperson said that it has contacted the Russian Ministry of Defense to verify these advertisements.
Construction of a defense line in the Kursk region
Data from the "Авито" website shows that most of the recruitment advertisements are posted by construction companies and companies specializing in recruiting shift workers in different regions such as Moscow, St. Petersburg and Orlov. "To build a second (backup) line of defense in the Kursk region, we are recruiting construction workers and handymen, no experience is required." The advertisement also promises that the workers who apply can continue to work in the construction company in the future.
The advertisement stated that the job was to "build fortifications (trenches, bunkers, anti-tank fortifications)" in a "non-hazardous" place "outside the war zone". However, the recruiter also said, "Of course, this is risky and everyone will be insured."
The monthly salary ranges from 150,000 to 210,000 rubles. Some advertisements indicate that the salary can reach up to 371,000 rubles during the 60-day work period, and those who are willing to stay and continue to work after 60 days will receive a higher salary.
