If everything has its own survival rules, what are the survival rules for carpets now? They must have visual beauty to decorate life, be eco-friendly to provide peace of mind and health, have a unique personality and not be out of the ordinary, and have a high-quality texture but not be delicate and artificial...

From August 14 to August 16, the 2024 Intertextile Autumn/Winter Shanghai Home Textiles Exhibition was held in grand style. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the home textile exhibition, there are more new breakthroughs in scale and form. The 100,000 square meter exhibition hall is divided into 14 product areas, including bedding, overseas imported fabrics, designer salons, etc., and a carpet area has been added.

Here, carpets break the stereotypes in people's minds. Not only can the style, color and size be customized, but also there are new breakthroughs in functionality. In order to fulfill the exquisite "lazy life", carpets have reached a new height.

A healthy home starts with a "zero-additive" carpet

At the exhibition, the reporter found that more and more carpet companies would highlight the concept of environmental protection when introducing their products. For example, the raw materials are non-toxic and harmless after a special textile dyeing process; the glue and backing of the carpets are treated for environmental protection and are formaldehyde-free.

When carpets began to focus on "ecology" and even shouted the slogan of "zero additives", it meant that the aesthetics of life that people pursue is comfort, health and environmental protection.

In the view of Xiao Nan, vice president of the Ulijia Group, the "zero additives" proposed by the Uli "Embrace" series is both a process and a life attitude.

From wool to the entire carpet, no glue or adhesive is added, there is no adhesive backing, and it can be used on both sides. The manual slow twisting process is more time-consuming than traditional handwork. "Even for skilled workers, it takes five or six months to weave a carpet."

These "zero-additive" hand-woven wool carpets are made of thick materials, with a thickness of 15mm. It is reported that it takes about one year of combed wool from 20 goats to weave a 300x400cm carpet.

There are no gorgeous colors, complicated patterns, or shallow rice dumplings, only the natural elegance of wool, which is gentle and unobtrusive. The wool and cotton fabrics are hand-woven and woven, flexible and warm. The sense of touch is within reach, and you can imagine the softness and healing of stepping on it barefoot. In line with the current home furnishing "wabi-sabi style" and "log style", the style of the carpet is also more natural, such as wool + jute, the collision of two natural materials in color and texture, simple but not dull.

Personalized customization, tailor-made on demand, can carpets also be “zero-copy”?

The word "customization" originated from the clothing industry. In the era of personalization, "customization" has gradually extended from the clothing industry to the home furnishing industry. In addition to tailoring a set of gorgeous clothes, home furnishing customization has gradually penetrated into people's lives.

Boxes of colorful color cards can be seen at each booth at the exhibition, and almost every company has launched a private customization business. Usually each company has its own custom gallery, and customers can choose from these galleries, or they can customize with pictures. The customer provides any pattern they like, and then the designer will connect and transform it. After the picture is out, the color is matched, the material is determined, and then the carpet can be made. According to the staff, "The customization period is usually about 15-25 days, and it depends on the complexity of the pattern."

In addition to this type of single customization, Ruixin Carpet also launched carpets that can be spliced at will. These carpets are designed as rectangular pieces that can be disassembled, cut, and repositioned at will, and different color blocks can be arranged and combined at will, just like a puzzle.

Anyone who has visited a fabric shop must have seen pieces of fabric wrapped around wooden strips, neatly stacked on the counter, or placed on the shelf. After the customer has chosen the pattern, the experienced salesperson will help calculate the size, deftly shake out the fabric, measure the size, mark it with chalk, cut a small slit, and pull hard along the slit. With a "swish" sound, the fabric is ready. Did you know that carpets can be "zero-copy" nowadays?

The staff of Jiading Carpet introduced that they specially prepared carpet rolls for this exhibition. These rolls are about 4 meters wide and the whole roll is about 100 square meters. "Whatever pattern and size the customer chooses, we can cut it on site and then ship it."

Beauty becomes art, carpet "flies" on the wall

In terms of eye-catching, the Sitaqi booth is definitely the "top stream" in the carpet area. The artistic carpets inside and outside the booth are more shocking and sincere than the other.

On the wall facing the entrance of the booth, there is a "Shanghai Exclusive" carpet hanging. A giant dragon hovers and soars over the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jinmao Tower, Shanghai Center, the Bund and other buildings with obvious "Shanghai imprints", which is exquisite.

"This carpet is made of New Zealand wool and bamboo fiber, and is made using a carving process. Because the process is complicated, it took eight workers about 30 days to complete it." According to staff member Mr. Zhang, this 10-square-meter artistic carpet was specially designed and produced for this Shanghai Home Textile Exhibition. It has attracted many people to inquire about the price just after it was launched, "but we are reluctant to buy it."

A three-dimensional floral carpet on the side of the exhibition hall is 3.2 meters high and 8 meters long, covering an entire wall, which is even more visually stunning. This "exhibition limited edition" is woven flat on the upper part, and the lower part is covered with three-dimensional flowers of various sizes, colors, materials, and weaving techniques... "It took 15 workers 35 days to complete it."

In daily life, carpets are not only common household items, but also works of art placed in space. "These carpets are very artistic, with relatively complex colors, and special details such as tassels and fur edges. They are not suitable for laying on the floor, but are more suitable for hanging on the wall as decorative paintings." Mr. Zhang introduced that carpets hung on the wall can not only be used as wall decorations to inject unique personality into the wall, but also absorb sound and eliminate echoes in the space.

Washable carpet, "lazy people" are also exquisite

Carpets are beautiful and comfortable, but cleaning them has discouraged many people, especially those with kids, cats, and dogs at home. Carpets shed, shed hair, and scratch, which can make you feel overwhelmed.

So, these people don't deserve carpet?

Wrong! At the exhibition, the reporter saw that many businesses launched washable, easy-to-clean, stain-resistant, anti-fouling, and easy-to-care-for carpets.

For example, the Microlight series launched by Youli, "Daily tea stains, coffee stains and the like will not seep into the surface, just wipe it with paper or cloth." The staff introduced that this waterproof function is directly processed on the yarn, so its waterproof and anti-fouling performance is permanent.

The seaweed bio-based series launched by Ruixin can also be regarded as a boon for "lazy people". "We have done extreme tests. Ordinary tea stains, cola, and coffee are no problem. Even if soy sauce and iodine are spilled on it, it can be cleaned by simply rinsing with water." The staff introduced that this carpet is not only easy to clean, but also can withstand cat scratching and dog paddling, which is especially suitable for families with children and pets. "It has the resilience of wool, is softer and easier to care for than wool, and supports personalized customization in patterns and colors."
