In Dar es Salaam in August, the sea breeze was blowing and the sky was clear. On the afternoon of August 11, with the completion of the full-process and full-element live-fire comprehensive exercise of the "Peace and Solidarity-2024" joint exercise on land, the "Peace and Solidarity-2024" joint exercise came to an end.
"We come for peace and unity." The commander of the Chinese land force participating in the exercise introduced that this joint exercise is large in scale, comprehensive in content and of high level of actual combat. The participating Chinese and Tanzanian militaries took "joint anti-terrorism military operations" as their theme. The two sides had in-depth exchanges and close cooperation, jointly improved the joint anti-terrorism operations capabilities, deepened military mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation, and consolidated the traditional friendship between the two countries and the two militaries.
Running-in
According to the consensus reached by China and Tanzania, the land phase of the "Peace and Solidarity 2024" joint exercise began on July 29. The Chinese and Tanzanian land participating troops were mixed and formed a joint counter-terrorism task force. A three-level command structure of "director-joint command-task force" was established. Four phases of joint professional, joint command, joint tactical training and joint actual-force exercises were arranged. The two armies optimized the command chain and promoted action coordination in the joint exercise.
The basis of the exercise is running-in. During the tactical coordination training, Mao Xuchu of the Chinese participating troops found that China and Tanzania had different combat concepts and tactical applications. In the face of these differences, China and Tanzania adopted a mixed training method for this joint exercise. Both sides sent experienced officers and soldiers to participate in the joint exercise. Chinese and Tanzanian officers and soldiers exchanged equipment use and training methods to accelerate the integration of tactics and methods in the joint exercise and training.
The author saw at the training site that in the training session on the operation and use of reconnaissance equipment, the Chinese participants first demonstrated the attack reconnaissance methods of drones and individual battlefield radars, and had close exchanges with Tanzanian officers and soldiers on the new combat concepts and operational ideas of unmanned intelligent equipment. The on-site learning atmosphere was very strong.
During the mortar squad combat action training, the mortar squad used the method of subject demonstration and experience exchange. The Chinese and Tanzanian personnel set up and withdraw mortars and had in-depth exchanges on the tactical basis of the artillery squad. The Tanzanian officers and soldiers applauded the Chinese side's excellent tactical techniques, and then the Tanzanian side also showed their artillery equipment to the Chinese participants. The Tanzanian officers and soldiers said that the Chinese soldiers were proficient in equipment operation and their excellent professional skills were impressive.
"The two sides interacted harmoniously and integrated smoothly, and quickly achieved close coordination of tactical operations." Xiao Yi, a member of the Chinese participating troops, said that after several days of joint training, the coordination and cooperation between the two sides were strengthened, and a tacit understanding was gradually formed. The two sides can basically convey action information with just a phrase, a look or a gesture.
joint
The advanced stage of coordination is joint action. During the exercise, the two sides adopted the method of "explaining, researching, deploying and practicing" to organize various combat formations to carry out tactical training, test the rationality of tactical design, command system, tactics and methods, and the participating troops of both sides deepened their recognition in command planning, combat operations and tactics and methods, forming a relatively mature command chain and tactical operations.
"A terrorist attack has occurred around ×× Town, please deal with it quickly..." On August 11, as the directorate issued the scenario, the land phase of the joint live-fire exercise kicked off. During the exercise, the joint directorate introduced and controlled the operation by issuing guidance and dispatching the situation.
"What is the situation of the terrorists' forces? What are the favorable and unfavorable factors facing the counter-terrorism operations? What are the important livelihood goals..." The author saw at the joint command that the Chinese and Tanzanian commanders simultaneously grasped the situation, jointly analyzed the situation, made decisions, organized coordination, and coherently commanded and controlled the troop actions according to the combat process. The participating troops jointly built a modular combat formation, and the officers and soldiers of the Chinese and Tanzanian armies worked closely and fought as one, and quickly launched various phases of operations such as infiltration and reconnaissance, covert raids, encirclement and decapitation, and pursuit and elimination.
At the drill site, it can be seen that in the billowing smoke, the fire strike team carried out precise fire strikes on important "enemy" targets; in the yellow sand, infantry fighting vehicles, assault vehicles and other equipment attacked with thunder, successively deployed battle formations and launched fierce attacks on the front line of the "terrorist" positions. Supported by special warfare, reconnaissance and other forces, the two armies worked together to annihilate the "terrorists" and rescue the trapped "hostages".
Joint exercises, mutual learning and mutual improvement. "The two armies have their own unique tactics and fighting styles. We learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses and jointly improve our joint action capabilities." The commander of the Chinese participating troops said that the mixed training and integrated operations of China and Tanzania have improved their joint counter-terrorism capabilities.
Fusion
Friendship is deepened in joint exercises and sublimated in cultural integration. During the joint exercises, the Chinese participating troops arranged cultural exchanges, sports competitions and other activities to promote the seeds of peace and unity to take root in the hearts of the officers and soldiers of the two countries.
On the morning of August 1, on the coast of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Chinese participating troops held a Chinese Culture Day event. Officers and soldiers from both armies gathered together to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
"The Chinese Culture Day activities include national cultural displays and battlefield art performances," said Duan Yongfeng from the Chinese participating troops. The cultural displays have three exhibition areas: national image, military culture, and traditional culture. Through a combination of display boards, models, and experiences, it showcases the brilliant achievements of my country's development in the new era, the new look and feel of our military, and the historical charm and contemporary style of China's excellent traditional culture.
The joint exercise is not only an exchange and display of military strength, but also an important platform for cultural exchange and communication between the two countries. Xu Fang, a member of the Chinese participating troops, watched the battlefield art performances and was deeply impressed by the characteristic art programs of the two countries: "The 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tanzania have been 60 years of sincere cooperation and common development. Although the cultures of the two countries are different, the two countries have always been able to find channels for communication and understanding. Art is the bridge connecting different cultures."
Abbas, a Tanzanian officer who studied in China for four years, said that 60 years ago, China and Tanzania planted the seeds of friendship, and now the flowers of friendship are flourishing and colorful. Since the beginning of the exercise, the close exchanges and interactions between the Chinese and Tanzanian soldiers can be seen everywhere at the joint exercise site, which is not only reflected in the coordinated training on the training ground, but also in the cultural exchange activities, the green field of the football friendly match, and the shade of the trees during the training breaks...
"The friendship between China and Tanzania has a long history and is still as solid as a rock. The future will be even brighter," said Lieutenant Colonel Kongdo of the Tanzanian participating troops with deep emotion.
The land of East Africa is now in the most beautiful season of the year. The sun is shining on the coastal city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. When I am in it, I can always see officers and soldiers of the Chinese and Tanzanian armies greeting each other when they meet. The concept of "peace and unity" has long been deeply rooted in the hearts of officers and soldiers of the two countries, guiding the two countries and the two militaries to write a new chapter of peace and unity.
