Mortal Kombat 1 was divisive among the series' fanbase for everything from its new Kamio Fighters mechanics to the decision to fully embrace the multiverse mode, but the fighting game, known for its brutal and gory graphics, still managed to rack up impressive sales.
WB Games and developer NetherRealm Studios announced that Mortal Kombat 1 has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide. The fighting game reached this milestone in less than a year, with the game released in September 2023. As of January, its global sales have exceeded 3 million copies.
Next month could be another big month for Mortal Kombat 1, as WB Games and NetherRealm are set to release a massive expansion called Khaos Reigns. In addition to a new story campaign, the expansion will bring six new playable characters and the return of the animal finishing moves.
"Mortal Kombat 1: Reign of Chaos" will be released on September 24 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
