On August 15, the main event of the 2024 National Ecological Day was held in Sanming City, Fujian Province. What positive results has my country achieved in its comprehensive green transformation? Zhao Chenxin introduced that, first, energy conservation and carbon reduction in key areas have been comprehensively promoted. my country is one of the countries with the fastest reduction in energy intensity in the world. In the first three years of the 14th Five-Year Plan, excluding raw material energy consumption and non-fossil energy consumption, the national energy intensity has been reduced by about 7.3%. The proportion of energy efficiency benchmark production capacity in industries such as steel, electrolytic aluminum, cement, oil refining, ethylene, and synthetic ammonia has increased by an average of about 6 percentage points.
Second, the pace of green and low-carbon energy transformation has accelerated. my country has built the world's largest and most complete new energy industry chain. The output of photovoltaic modules has ranked first in the world for 16 consecutive years, providing 70% of photovoltaic modules and 60% of wind power equipment in the world. Among the top 10 wind turbine companies in the world, 6 are Chinese companies, and among the top 10 power battery companies, 6 are Chinese companies.
Third, the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure has achieved remarkable results. We have promoted the green and low-carbon transformation of traditional industries and accelerated the elimination of obsolete production capacity. At present, more than 150 million tons of obsolete steel production capacity has been withdrawn, 134 million tons of ultra-low emission transformation of the entire steel process has been completed, crude steel production has been reduced by more than 40 million tons, and nearly 5,100 green factories have been cultivated. The production and sales of new energy vehicles have ranked first in the world for 9 consecutive years. As of the end of June 2024, the number of vehicles in use reached 24.72 million, accounting for more than half of the world. In the first half of 2024, the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles in my country reached 35.2%, ranking first among major economies.
Fourth, large-scale equipment renewal and consumer goods trade-in have made a good start. Trade-in continues to stimulate consumption vitality. In the first half of the year, the retail sales of household appliances of units above the designated size increased by 3.1% year-on-year, 2.1 percentage points faster than the same period last year, the retail sales of furniture of units above the designated size increased by 2.6% year-on-year, and the retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles increased by 33.1%; as of the end of July, the number of applications for automobile scrapping and renewal subsidies nationwide exceeded 450,000.
He said that the National Development and Reform Commission will adhere to comprehensive transformation, coordinated transformation, innovative transformation, and safe transformation, take the "dual carbon" work as the guide, coordinate the promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion, and growth, and implement them with the spirit of nailing down nails, so as to promote my country's green and low-carbon development to continuously reach new levels.
