James CrandallJames Crandall is an American impressionist painter who uses urban landscapes and daily life scenes as his themes to create works full of life and changes in light and shadow.
He studied at UCLA from 1975 to 1977. He studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California from 1978 to 1981, and received a bachelor's degree with honors. He worked as a concept illustrator in the advertising and film industries for a long time, and then shifted his focus to traditional easel painting.
He seeks out subjects in everyday life, always on the lookout for fascinating effects of light or the casual gestures of people at work and play. He created a series of paintings that depict life in Lucca in northern Tuscany, his grandfather's hometown, which he visited frequently.
His work also includes scenes of rural California Gold Country, where he and his wife Nancy make their home. His style is characterized by blocky, geometric blocks of color that appear thinner than expected but give an overall painterly appearance.
He is a signed master member of the Oil Painters of America and a signed member of the American Impressionist Society. His artistic mission is to draw people's attention to the fleeting moments in life through his paintings, which are usually not easily perceived. Through his paintings, the audience can feel the daily life scenes happening around them, which are full of human touch and reality.
