Kursk Oblast and Belgorod Oblast are located in southwestern Russia, both bordering Ukraine.

According to Reuters and AFP, Russia said 200,000 people had been evacuated from the border area. Ukraine said it would "open a humanitarian corridor" for civilians in the areas controlled by the Ukrainian army in Kursk Oblast to facilitate their evacuation.
