Reference News reported on August 15According to AFP on August 13, Poland signed a $10 billion agreement on the 13th to purchase 96 Apache attack helicopters from Boeing of the United States, which is a new upgrade to the country's military capabilities.
Since Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine in 2022, Poland has significantly accelerated the modernization of its armed forces.
"This is a landmark purchase for Poland's armed forces ... the purchase of 96 state-of-the-art AH-64E Apache attack helicopters," Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kościniak-Kamysz said.
"Today we are reaching a milestone in the transformation and equipment of our military," he said at the Inowroclaw Air Force Base, where the Apache helicopters will be stationed.
The deal is the latest in a series of contracts Poland has signed with the United States in recent days.
On the 9th, Warsaw announced a deal to buy hundreds of AIM-120C advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles. On the 12th, it announced a contract to build 48 launchers for the US-designed Patriot air defense system.
Poland, a staunch ally of Ukraine, announced it would spend more than 4% of its gross domestic product on defense this year, double NATO's 2% target.
The war in Ukraine has also cemented ties between the United States and Poland, a country on NATO's eastern flank that counts Washington as one of its main allies.
