US says it destroyed two Houthi ships

KUWAIT CITY, August 14 (Xinhua) -- Sana'a: The U.S. Central Command said on the 14th that the U.S. military destroyed two ships of the Yemeni Houthi armed forces in the Red Sea.

The U.S. Central Command issued a statement on social media in the early morning of the 14th, saying that in the past 24 hours, the U.S. Central Command successfully destroyed two Houthi armed ships in the Red Sea because "these ships posed a clear and imminent threat to the United States and its coalition forces and merchant ships in the region."

In response, Abdulrahman Ahanomi, the media director of the Houthi armed forces responsible for radio and television, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency: "All the propaganda of the United States is groundless. This is just their political propaganda."

After the new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict broke out in October last year, the Houthi armed forces used drones and missiles to attack targets in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, demanding that Israel stop its military operations in the Gaza Strip. Since January 12 this year, the United States and the United Kingdom have launched air strikes on Houthi armed targets many times, causing casualties. Some countries condemned the actions of the United States and Britain, believing that this was an infringement on Yemen's sovereignty and would exacerbate regional tensions.
