Young people can "exchange services for accommodation" when they volunteer in nursing homes. Reporters learned that some nursing homes in Beijing are planning to carry out pilot projects to recruit young volunteers from the society to serve the elderly through "intergenerational integration". Volunteers selected for this project only need to provide no less than 20 hours of volunteer service per month to obtain accommodation provided by nursing homes at a low price of 300 to 500 yuan per month.
On August 12, the Beijing Elderly Care Industry Association issued an announcement to recruit young volunteers for the "intergenerational integration" pilot program in elderly care institutions. It is understood that young volunteers for the "intergenerational integration" pilot program need to live in the pilot elderly care institutions, and the types of volunteer services they engage in mainly include cultural and sports activities, paired services, resource support, health promotion, and professional support. The content includes organizing and participating in interest groups for the elderly, organizing cultural and sports activities in elderly care institutions, accompanying the elderly to chat and read newspapers, and providing psychological comfort. The service content is not very professional, but requires volunteers to spend time "accompanying".
According to the recruitment announcement, the project requires applicants to be between 22 and 40 years old, have no self-owned housing in the city, have a college degree or above, be keen on public welfare, and love to serve the elderly. Applicants must work for an employer in the city and sign a labor contract, and have paid social insurance in the city for one year. Applicants with professional backgrounds in social work, medicine, psychology, information technology, culture and art, law, party building, etc. will be given priority under the same conditions.
In addition, the project also requires applicants to voluntarily comply with the relevant management regulations of the pilot nursing homes, not have infectious or mental illnesses, not have been subject to public security or criminal penalties, and not have other circumstances that are not suitable for recruitment as stipulated by laws, regulations and relevant policies.
It is understood that the first batch of pilot projects of "intergenerational integration" volunteer service will be carried out in five nursing homes, namely Rainbow Village Nursing Home in Chaoyang District, Lugouqiao Social Welfare Center in Fengtai District, Xingfuli Nursing Center in Fengtai District, Moxi Branch of Laorenfu Nursing Service Center in Shijingshan District, and Jinyue Nursing Center in Changping District. Each pilot institution will recruit 2 to 5 volunteers. According to the announcement, applicants need to submit their application through the "Jingcai Shiguang" nursing volunteer service information platform, and the registration deadline is September 13.
After the applicant submits the application, the pilot nursing home needs to select the applicant and organize physical examinations and psychological tests for young volunteers based on the actual situation. After the two parties reach an agreement, the volunteers need to sign an agreement with the pilot nursing home and move in. During the agreement period, volunteers need to provide no less than 20 hours of volunteer service per month, and can enjoy the accommodation provided by the pilot nursing home. It is understood that in principle, the pilot nursing home needs to arrange for volunteers to live in single rooms. If they do not have the conditions for living alone, no more than 2 people will live in a single room. During the agreement period, the nursing home charges volunteers a low accommodation fee of 300 to 500 yuan per person per month.
It is understood that the "intergenerational integration" volunteer service pilot program launched by some nursing homes is aimed at exploring and promoting the "elderly + youth" two-way companionship service in nursing homes, and further enhancing the sense of gain and happiness of the elderly in the institutions. Through the pilot program, the elderly receive services and companionship, and the young people also receive preferential accommodation, which can be described as a "win-win" situation. Therefore, this "service for accommodation" model has attracted much attention since its launch.
"A half-day activity is four hours, and 20 hours of service is about five and a half days, which is relatively easy to achieve." Mr. Yang, a staff member of the Rainbow Village Nursing Home in Chaoyang District, said that they are open to young people signing up as volunteers, and there are no rigid requirements for the professional background of volunteers. At present, they have received many calls from young people for consultation.
For young people who value "service in exchange for accommodation", some nursing homes have also made pertinent suggestions. "We are far away from the central city, and it is not very convenient to take the subway. Many activities are carried out during the day on weekdays, so everyone needs to consider their own situation comprehensively." said a staff member of a pilot institution.
