There are still more than two weeks before the start of the fall semester. The reporter learned from Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Bookstore Group that the production and distribution of textbooks for the new semester have been mostly completed, and they are doing their best to ensure that "books arrive before class and everyone has one" for 46 consecutive years.
On August 13, the reporter came to the Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Printing Group located in Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone. In the workshop where machines were roaring, workers were busy in two shifts, and the printed and bound textbooks were piled up into a small mountain.
According to the staff, the concentrated production time of textbooks this year is only more than 40 days. In order to increase production capacity, the workshop has further added intelligent equipment on the basis of last year. The number of intelligent palletizing robots for rotary printing has increased from 1 to 3, which can remove the book signatures on the production line and stack them neatly, which is more standardized and neat than manual stacking; the number of intelligent online packaging systems for binding has increased from one set to two sets, which can automatically pack the bound textbooks neatly, and can pack nearly 6,000 packages a day, which is at least equivalent to the efficiency of 16 workers; in addition, based on the offline printing quality inspection system applied last year, an online printing quality inspection system has been added to improve the inspection efficiency.

"This year, our printing and binding capacity has been further improved. Currently, the daily output of textbooks exceeds 1 million, reaching a historical high." Wu Yonggang, director of the Production Quality Management Center of Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Printing Group, said: "We make good use of every minute to complete the production task of this season's textbooks with the highest efficiency and the best quality."
At the Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua New Port Logistics Base, the popularization of intelligent equipment has further improved the efficiency of textbook distribution. The reporter saw in the warehouse that unmanned forklifts were dispatching the entire package of textbooks, while the automated sorting assembly line was sorting the scattered textbooks by direction. The logistics base has also introduced a supply chain management system based on big data and a transportation management system based on Beidou positioning.
Du Chunning, logistics director of Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Bookstore Group, said: "Through the digital supply chain platform, we have formed the shortest warehouse picking path, the best transportation and distribution route, and a more scientific task combination, which has significantly enhanced the delivery capacity; using the TMS transportation management system, we can track the logistics and distribution vehicles in the province in real time to ensure that they are delivered to each Xinhua Bookstore on time."
Chen Chen, a dispatcher at the textbook circulation department of Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Bookstore Group, said: "At present, we receive and send about 50,000 packages every day, which is equivalent to about 3 to 4 million textbooks. We are required to complete the distribution task of all the textbooks that have arrived before August 20."
At present, textbooks for the new semester are being continuously distributed to primary and secondary schools and Xinhua Bookstores across the province. The reporter saw that at the Xinjiekou store of Jiangsu Phoenix Xinhua Bookstore Group Nanjing Branch, there are counters for middle school and primary school textbooks on the 3rd and 4th floors respectively. At present, the textbooks for Chinese, mathematics and English for junior high school have arrived, and the textbooks for Chinese, mathematics and English for grades 2 to 6 of primary school have also arrived, and other textbooks are on the way.
"We now have new textbooks arriving every day, and parents can learn about the latest inventory information through three channels," said Li Yan, a staff member of the bookstore. "One is to call our store hotline for consultation; the second is to use our WeChat mini program 'Xinhua on Palm', where you can see textbook inventory information in real time and purchase directly online; third, we have about 40 WeChat reader groups, which will also update relevant information in a timely manner."
