Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China does not comment on the remarks made in the US election. China's nuclear arsenal is not at the same level as that of the United States.
On August 14, 2024, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian answered reporters' questions. Some of the content is as follows.
RIA Novosti: According to reports, former US President and Republican candidate Trump said that he does not rule out the possibility that China will "catch up with or even surpass" the United States in terms of nuclear arsenal. In an interview with entrepreneur Musk on the social media platform X, he said: "Russia and the United States are in the first place, while China is far behind, but it is not surprising that they are developing very rapidly, and China will eventually catch up with or even surpass us." What is China's comment on this?
Lin Jian: China has no comment on the remarks made during the US election. China's nuclear arsenal is not at the same level as that of the United States. At the same time, China pursues a policy of no first use of nuclear weapons, adheres to a nuclear strategy of self-defense, always maintains its nuclear forces at the minimum level required for national security, and does not engage in an arms race with anyone.
