Changsha Evening News Changsha on Palm August 14 (Correspondent Liu Qizhi) On August 4, the Hunan University Student Innovation Competition was successfully held at Hunan First Normal University. The competition was jointly sponsored by the United Front Work Department of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and other departments, and attracted 479,000 projects and more than 1.78 million people from 149 schools across the province to actively participate. The "Digital Bone Plate - Opening up a New Era of Orthopedic Surgery Based on Digital Twin Technology" project promoted by Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine won the gold medal.
According to He Jinwen, the project leader, their team is committed to developing personalized and precise medical auxiliary equipment to address the problems of numerous surgical tools and complex operations in orthopedic surgery. He explained: "We plan to use 3D printing technology to tailor surgical guides for each patient to improve the success rate of surgery and the speed of patient recovery."
He Jinwen revealed that his inspiration came from attending a medical equipment exhibition, where he realized that the current medical auxiliary equipment could not meet the personalized needs of patients. Therefore, he joined forces with students from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine majoring in medical information engineering, traditional Chinese medicine orthopedics, and clinical medicine to form the "Digital Bone Plate" team. With the team's unremitting efforts, they developed a series of core algorithms and successfully designed and manufactured a number of 3D printed personalized medical auxiliary equipment.
Under the guidance of their instructor, Associate Professor Liu Wei from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, the "Digital Bone Plate" team visited Changsha Institute of Medical Applications of 3D Printing Technology and other places for field investigation and study many times, and received professional guidance and strong support from Professor Lei Qing, a well-known domestic digital orthopedic expert, and Associate Chief Physician Cai Lihong.
Associate Professor Liu Wei predicts that this new technology will be able to significantly improve the success rate of surgery, reduce postoperative complications for patients, and shorten the recovery period.
