Let me share some of my experience as a farmer.

These two days I watched the CCTV program "Dialogue" interviewing Nongfu Spring founder Zhong Shanshan. In the more than one-hour program, he talked about topics such as the richest man, cyber violence, traffic, farmers, heirs and so on.

In fact, when the show was broadcast, he was no longer the richest man in China. The new richest man is Pinduoduo's boss Huang. In fact, Huang has never wanted to be the richest man. He also wants to keep a low profile, but his strength does not allow it.

It’s interesting to say that Boss Zhong and Boss Huang are both from Hangzhou, Zhejiang. They are more than 30 years apart in age. One has suffered a lot from “we took a detour”, while the other is a genius student who has had a smooth journey.

After their success, both of them basically hid behind the scenes, one said he was a farmer, and the other said he wanted to study potatoes and tomatoes.

After watching the interview with Zhong Shanshan, Daxing discovered a problem: the way of thinking of the previous generation of entrepreneurs is very different from that of the younger generation. Taking Mr. Huang as an example, he pays special attention to rational analysis and logical deduction, and it can be seen that modern education has left a deep mark on him.

Zhong Shanshan is different. During the interview, Daxing noticed two points.

First, as the richest man who started out as a water seller, he said that he is a person who likes peace and quiet. He did not use the word "cyberbullying" to describe what happened this year, but used the word "traffic" which comes from water:

If traffic does not bear legal responsibility, it must be an evil.

Putting the evaluation of oneself in the cage of law is probably the ultimate wish of all successful Chinese entrepreneurs. Interestingly, he used the example of Li Bing and his sons building the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. "The flow is like water. Li Bing and his sons took advantage of the situation in Dujiangyan Irrigation System. What was in the hearts of Li Bing and his sons? I want this water to do good."

Daxing can see the dilemma in his statement. For example, if this traffic allows some people to have private purposes, or to make money by using technological means to exploit the weaknesses of human nature and deliberately create traffic potential, it will be destructive to a certain extent.

For another example, when this destructive flow prevents the truth from coming out in time, society will suffer tremendous pressure. So in this process, the law needs to act quickly and not intervene later after the damage has been done. He gave an example, saying that if Li Bing and his son waited until the Chengdu Plain was flooded before building the Dujiangyan, it would be too late.

From this answer, we can see that although the previous generation of entrepreneurs did not receive a good education in the detour era, their understanding of pragmatism is deeply rooted in their bones. No matter how the traffic comes from, no matter if there is a better way, they will solve it according to the best solution they can think of first.

This is not just a big star's nonsense. When Zhong Shanshan later talked about the issue of future successors, he clearly mentioned that the most important shortcoming of a successor is hesitation:

Discussing without deciding and being indecisive are the most basic qualities.

If you still can't understand, you can replace it with the words of Liu Guoliang, the "fat guy who doesn't understand football":

Even if it is a wrong decision, you have to make a decision quickly.

The second is that Zhong Shanshan repeatedly said that he was a farmer. He didn't mind the host saying that the richest man in the United States built rockets, while he was a water carrier. He said that Musk was a doctoral student at Stanford at the age of 25, while he only went to elementary school for four years at the age of 25, but worked as a farmer for 17 years.

In the following time, Zhong Shanshan sat and talked about how he led his team to plant navel oranges in southern Jiangxi and apples in Xinjiang over the years, and his expression was particularly calm.

From seeds to juice, from farmers being the most contractual to China being rich if farmers are rich, to helping more farmers at the cost of strategic losses, the details are very rich and you can see that he has been doing it and thinking about it all the time.

The reason why Daxing chose these two points is that from Zhong’s speech, his understanding of traffic is completely different from that of netizens. Both sides have not figured out what caused cyber violence, but Zhong proposed a solution on how to end this cycle.

The new generation of entrepreneurs basically don't pay attention to this kind of problem, and most of them have remained silent.

In addition, although he repeatedly emphasized that he was a farmer, he came from an intellectual family, similar to Jack Ma and slightly better than Huang Zheng. He had been a farmer, a bricklayer, set up stalls, grew mushrooms, and sold curtains.

Throughout the interview, his handling of negative emotions and negative topics also gave all young people a new perspective, that is, no matter how bad the environment is, don't stop taking action, because lying down and complaining will gain you nothing.

So when past experiences became the upper limit of his cognition, his thinking dimension became very different from that of young entrepreneurs, which also affected the Nongfu Spring company. For example, when other entrepreneurs were ashamed to talk about their past and needed the support of many MBAs from prestigious schools, Zhong Shanshan openly said that he was a farmer and that the business philosophy of his company was down-to-earth.

In this era where everyone is trying to package themselves and establish their own image, bosses of listed companies are rushing to do live broadcasts to become internet celebrities, and even when their hands are pinched by car doors they have to scream and take videos, this kind of steadiness is very rare, but this may also be one of the reasons why he and netizens often talk at cross purposes.

Daxing feels that this is a feeling that only people who truly love the soil can have. When talking about the wrong location of the Nongfu Spring factory, the wrong breeding of navel oranges, and the wrong introduction of production lines, Daxing felt as if Harari was describing why East Asians respect their elders. Because of the mistakes made on this land, our elders have tried and failed for us. In the words of Zhong Shanshan:

The richness of life is created by stepping into one pit after another.

In short, after watching the interview, Daxing fell into deep thought. For those of us who emphasize speed in everything, have we lost all the tenacity and patience of the older generation?

The show was good, but there was a flaw at the end. The host asked Zhong Shanshan what label he wanted to tear off the most. Zhong said that since there is a label, there must be an underlying reason:

Just digest it slowly, don't tear it apart.

Well, they are just selling water, and they haven't done anything wrong. Why do you keep thinking about tearing off their labels?
