According to media reports on August 14, A100, H100 and other chips have been banned from sale for a year and a half. However, NVIDIA's China-specific chip H20 has not won widespread popularity among Chinese startups.
Many small and medium-sized entrepreneurs have found that compared with special edition chips, NVIDIA's RTX 4090 graphics card is not only more cost-effective, but also easier to obtain.
Since the A100 and H100 were banned from sale, NVIDIA has launched a number of special chips for the Chinese market. However, these special chips are not only inferior to the original ones in performance, but the prices are also prohibitive for many entrepreneurs.
For example, the price of the H20 eight-card server is as high as about 1.3 million yuan, and the main demand sides are still major Internet companies such as Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance.
In contrast, the NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card has been favored by more and more AI entrepreneurs for its excellent performance and reasonable price.
An entrepreneur said that his company’s previous direction was the AI application layer, mainly renting A100 and H100 computing power through cloud services, and deploying second-hand V100 chips and RTX 3090 graphics cards locally.
He believes that for AI application layer business, the RTX 4090 graphics card is sufficient and more cost-effective.
Another company stated that the RTX 4090 graphics card is currently the first choice of many customers and has a good price-performance ratio. The company plans to deploy 100 RTX 4090 graphics cards this month.
