During the summer vacation, the Orange Island scenic spot is crowded with tourists from all over the world. Tourists come here to trace the revolutionary footprints and "check in" in front of the Mao Zedong Youth Art Sculpture. This nationally famous popular scenic spot is about to usher in a new "green" business card - "Zero Carbon Island". The Changsha Orange Island Zero Carbon Energy Experience Hall will be unveiled on August 14, and carbon management will begin on Orange Island.
Jiangxinzhou Island becomes a popular scenic spot in China
In the 6th century AD, Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty recorded in his Water Classic: "The Xiang River flows north through the west of Nanjin City, and faces Juzhou Island to the west." Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty wrote in his poem: "The people of Taoyuan have changed their system, but the fields of Juzhou Island are still fertile." Since ancient times, Juzi Island has been an important ferry stop for ships.
Later, Mao Zedong's "Qin Yuan Chun Changsha" made Orange Island famous both at home and abroad. The combination of natural gifts and historical culture makes Orange Island a "treasure" of Changsha with unparalleled charm.
From Jiangxinzhou Island to a popular scenic spot, the construction and development of Orange Island Scenic Area has been going on for more than 60 years. In 1960, the Orange Island Scenic Area was built and officially opened to the public in 1962. It is one of the most popular outdoor places for Changsha citizens.
In May 2004, the Changsha Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government decided to comprehensively renovate Orange Island. In July of the same year, Orange Island Park was officially closed for construction.
In 2009, the Orange Island Scenic Area was opened to the public free of charge. On December 26 of the same year, the 116th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Mao Zedong, the Orange Island Mao Zedong Youth Art Sculpture was officially unveiled.
In 2012, Changsha Yuelu Mountain·Juzizhou Tourist Area was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction, becoming the fifth 5A tourist attraction in Hunan and the first 5A tourist attraction in Changsha at that time. In 2022, Yuelu Mountain·Juzizhou ranked among the top five 5A tourist attractions in the country in terms of brand influence, becoming an important engine driving the vigorous development of Changsha's cultural and tourism industry.
Integrate red resources with green and low-carbon
On March 7 this year, the Hunan delegation attending the Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress held its fourth plenary session. In response to questions from Chinese and foreign reporters, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and governor, said that Juzizhou will be built into a "zero-carbon island" to showcase the achievements of Hunan's new power system construction in the new era, closely integrate red resources with green and low-carbon, and contribute Hunan's strength to a beautiful China.
To build Orange Island into a "zero-carbon island" means to build the 91.64-hectare Orange Island into the first zero-carbon demonstration area on a river island in China. At the same time, a zero-carbon energy experience hall will be built in the Orange Island scenic area. Among them, the Changsha Orange Island Zero-Carbon Energy Experience Hall will be unveiled on August 14, and carbon management will begin on Orange Island.
It is reported that as the first project of Zero Carbon Island, the experience hall building itself has achieved low carbon emissions. The experience hall has built 3 kW photovoltaic tiles and 2.4 kW photovoltaic curtain walls, and the surrounding supporting facilities include 4.87 kW photovoltaic trails, fitness bikes, wind power trees and other micro-power generation devices. The annual power generation is expected to reach 21,000 kWh, which is equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration capacity of 12.78 acres of forest.
The person in charge of the Zero Carbon Energy Experience Hall in Orange Island, Changsha, told reporters that through carbon reduction in electricity, management and natural carbon fixation, Orange Island will achieve 87% of its zero carbon goal. The last 13% still requires the joint participation and effective promotion of transportation, construction, ecology and other departments on the island. In the near future, we will jointly achieve the goal of creating a zero carbon island.
