China News Service, August 14. According to Japan's "Daily News" report, on the 13th, in response to the "huge earthquake warning" for the Nankai Trough recently issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Japanese Cabinet Office stated that if no large-scale earthquake is observed by 17:00 local time on the 15th, the warning will be lifted.
The Cabinet Office said that while the "huge earthquake warning" is in effect, people should make disaster preparations, including sleeping in a way that allows them to escape quickly and always keeping emergency items with them. However, if no large-scale earthquake occurs within a week of the warning, disaster prevention response measures can be temporarily suspended.
According to statistics from the Japan Meteorological Agency, after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Miyazaki Prefecture on August 8, 23 earthquakes with a magnitude of 1 or above have been observed in the presumed area where earthquakes may occur in the Nankai Trough. An official from the Meteorological Agency said, "The seismic activity is gradually weakening, but we still need to remain vigilant."
According to previous reports, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a temporary warning for the Nankai Trough earthquake on August 8, saying that compared with usual times, the possibility of a major earthquake near the Nankai Trough is relatively higher. If an earthquake occurs, it may cause a strong earthquake or tsunami, and all localities are required to take disaster prevention and warning measures.
