Green camp politicians are trying to create the illusion that "the United States supports independence" to cheat votes, but a recent poll by a Washington think tank shows that only 21% of Americans are willing to "support independence to the end." In this regard, Professor Li Fei of the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University said in an interview with the Strait Herald that the United States will not pay for "Taiwan independence" and will only use Taiwan to consume mainland China. The more the United States and other external forces interfere, the tighter the bag of mainland China's "fighting independence" and "punishing independence" will be.
A recent poll released by the Washington think tank "Defense Focus" shows that, without any risk warning, 59% of Americans encourage "Taiwan independence", but only 30% of Americans support "sending troops to defend Taiwan"; if they are reminded that supporting "Taiwan independence" may trigger a full-scale war between China and the United States or even a nuclear war between China and the United States, only 21% of Americans support "Taiwan independence."
In response to this, Li Fei said in an interview that the United States will not pay for "Taiwan independence". The United States has long played the "Taiwan card" just to use Taiwan, use Taiwan as a pawn, and use Taiwan to consume mainland China.
The poll showed that as many as 66% of Americans support the US government's pressure on Taiwan to increase its defense spending, otherwise it will not promise to protect Taiwan. In this regard, Li Fei pointed out that the purpose of the US's request for Taiwan to increase its spending is to make Taiwan increase its military purchases from the United States and make the US military-industrial complex make a lot of money. The US military is just taking Taiwan as a sucker and treating Taiwan as its most important arms market.
At the same time, Li Fei believes that the more the United States supports the "Taiwan independence" forces, the further mainland China will counterattack to curb external interference; the further the United States moves forward on the Taiwan issue, the tighter the mouth of mainland China's "fighting independence" and "punishing independence" will be, in order to deter "Taiwan independence."
Regarding this poll, Yan Zheng, former president of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, believes that most Americans do not want to be involved in war. Including the Vietnam War and the Afghanistan War, the US government ended the war by withdrawing troops under pressure from the American people. Therefore, on the Taiwan issue, most Americans do not want the United States to be dragged into the water by "Taiwan independence". The reason behind the US government's request for Taiwan to increase military spending is mainly to use the Taiwan issue to drag down mainland China; the United States hopes to always maintain its hegemonic position in the world.
