For a long time, Sino-Indian relations have been in a very delicate state, with cooperation and competition between the two sides. Among the many problems between China and India, nothing is more tense than disputes on the border.
Sino-Indian border
In Kashmir and southern Tibet, there has long been a disputed area of 60,000 square kilometers between China and India. Around these areas, conflicts have broken out between China and India many times, and even escalated into war in 1962. Even today, the two sides still have constant friction in this area.
Fortunately, China and India have tried to resolve the dispute through other means. The China-India Border Affairs Coordination Mechanism was born in this context. This mechanism holds regular bilateral consultations to ensure that there is no strategic misjudgment between the two sides and to promote a possible political solution for both sides.
However, the Modi government’s sincerity in solving the problem politically is clearly not enough. On July 31, less than half a month after China and India completed the 30th meeting of the China-India Border Affairs Consultation and Coordination Working Mechanism, India took new actions in the border area.
