Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned on August 13 that He Bingjiao, who won the silver medal in women's singles badminton at the Paris Olympics, has submitted an application to retire from the national team, which means that He Bingjiao will no longer participate in the competition, and He Bingjiao's name was no longer in the latest rankings released by the World Badminton Federation on the same day. Xia Xuanze, vice chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association, confirmed to the Beijing Youth Daily reporter: "He Bingjiao has applied to retire from the national team, and we have also informed the World Badminton Federation of this matter. It is not clear whether she has officially retired because she is in the local team."
The 27-year-old He Bingjiao is the second player of the national badminton women's singles. She helped the Chinese women's team win the Uber Cup in 2020 and 2024, and won the Sudirman Cup with the Chinese team in 2021 and 2023. At the Hangzhou Asian Games, she and her teammates won the women's team silver medal and the singles bronze medal.
At the Paris Olympics, He Bingjiao lost 0-2 to South Korean star An Se-young in the women's singles final and won a bronze medal. He Bingjiao's action of holding the Spanish Olympic Committee badge at the award ceremony triggered a positive response from the outside world. It turned out that in the women's singles semi-final, He Bingjiao played with Spanish star Marin until the middle of the second game. The latter had a severe knee sprain when leading and had to give up the game. He Bingjiao wanted to pay tribute to Marin in this way at the award ceremony. The International Olympic Committee commented on this: "This is the meaning of Olympic values." The Spanish Olympic Committee also posted a message on its official social media to express its gratitude to He Bingjiao, believing that this move was "the best embodiment of the Olympic spirit."
After returning from Paris with the Chinese badminton team, He Bingjiao submitted an application to withdraw from the national team. The Badminton World Federation updated the latest world rankings on the 13th, and He Bingjiao's name, which was previously ranked seventh, has disappeared from the list. A Beijing Youth Daily reporter interviewed Xia Xuanze about this matter, and he confirmed that He Bingjiao has retired from the national team and the Chinese Badminton Association has informed the Badminton World Federation of this matter. Since He Bingjiao will no longer participate in international competitions in the future, the Badminton World Federation will withdraw her previous points. However, Xia Xuanze also stated that He Bingjiao's relationship is in the local team, and he does not know whether He Bingjiao has officially retired.
