Reported by Li Lanyue and Zhu Bo from China Economic Herald and China Development Network Recently, the 2024 Summer Internship Activities for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan College Students (Tianjin), hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education and undertaken by the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology and the Municipal Education Commission, officially came to an end. More than 20 college students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan successfully completed the 5-week internship and study tour activities.
The internship activities were carried out through the "1+3" model, namely "internship + research, visit, exchange". During the event, in order to help college students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to have a deeper, more comprehensive and objective understanding of the economic and social development of the mainland, the organizers organized students to visit the Tiankai Higher Education Science and Technology Park Entrepreneur Studio, the National Maritime Museum, the Xiaozhan Rice Exhibition Hall, and the Fifty-Six Nationalities Research Center, and participated in the Tiankai Innovation Salon with the theme of cutting-edge medical technology, and appreciated the architectural art of Wudadao and traditional Chinese tea art. The rich and colorful activities deepened the understanding and recognition of Tianjin by students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, promoted extensive exchanges and contacts among young people from Tianjin, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and helped young people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan integrate into the overall national development.
As a representative of the internship unit, Li Tao, deputy director of the Haihe Laboratory of Advanced Computing and Key Software (Innovation), said that in this activity, two students participated in the distributed medical privacy computing project of the laboratory's Digital Health Research Center, which promoted young students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to understand the scientific research institutions in the Mainland (mainland), as well as technical exchanges with interns from other universities. The internship activities are of great significance in further promoting economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation, and cultivating talents with an international perspective.
"On behalf of all the students who participated in the event, I sincerely thank the Science and Technology Association for giving us a different internship opportunity this summer." Chen Qiye, who is from Macau and currently studying at the University of Macau, said at the graduation ceremony. During her internship at Tianjin Science and Technology Workers' Home, she participated in various administrative tasks including daily management, administrative meetings, event contacts, communication and reception. She deeply realized that administrative management is not only the handling of daily affairs, but also the core force to promote the development of the organization, and plays a vital role in key decision-making. This internship enabled me to improve my professional skills while learning how to combine professional knowledge with actual needs, and improve my teamwork and organizational skills.
Mo Wenxuan, a student from Hong Kong who is studying at Nankai University, said: "The internship is both challenging and fun. Faced with real work scenarios, we gradually understood the practical significance of professional knowledge, gained the opportunity to communicate directly with industry experts, and mastered the ability to deal with problems. We should integrate knowledge with action, promote action with knowledge, and seek knowledge with action. The summer internship activities for college students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have made me clearly see the direction and goals of my future career development."
"The arrangement of this event is rich and fulfilling. The students have gained work experience during the internship and have deepened their understanding of Tianjin's scientific and technological innovation achievements during the study visits." Xia Qiuyu, member of the Party Leadership Group and vice chairman of the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, expressed the hope that the students will have the motherland in mind, set high goals, be down-to-earth and live up to their youth, combine their personal development with the development of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and the development of the country, and contribute their youthful strength to realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
