On August 12, the 5-a-side match of the 41st Beijing Evening News Hundred Teams Cup Football Tournament continued at Fengtai Sports Center. On the No. 2 field in the afternoon, the Yanjing U8B team tied with its opponent, the Zhizhen Sports Blue Team, with a score of 4 to 4. The match was finally decided by a penalty shootout. At the critical moment, the eight-year-old female player Qiu Ziyi withstood the pressure and kicked the winning penalty kick, helping the team successfully advance to the top 128.
Qiu Ziyi, a sophomore, is one of the few female players in the 128-strong team. She started to learn to play football in September last year. Her father admitted: "My daughter started to practice football relatively late. Compared with other children of the same age, her footwork is still a bit rough. When I asked her to play football at the decisive moment, I got nervous and even forgot to take pictures and videos of my child." Although he was a little hesitant about his daughter learning to play football at first, he finally chose to respect her interest and fully support her training. In this Hundred Teams Cup, Qiu Ziyi's father took a special leave to accompany his daughter to participate in the competition. Whenever the game came to the halftime break, he quickly ran to his daughter with a water bottle and a towel, wiping her sweat while encouraging her. After Qiu Ziyi scored a penalty kick, he excitedly punched the air twice and shouted: "YES!"
Seeing his daughter remain calm under pressure on the court, the father felt very proud and said: "It is difficult to create a scene for children to be under pressure in daily life, but sports games create such a complete scene for children. I think this opportunity is very good."
As the main player of the class football team, Qiu Ziyi also performed well in school competitions. She has represented her class in three competitions and won two championships and one third place. "I think football is very interesting and fun. Especially when we scored the last goal in today's game and everyone hugged each other tightly," said Qiu Ziyi.
