"Defend, defend!" "Pass the ball back to me!" On August 12, accompanied by loud whistles and crisp sounds of hitting the ball, a fierce roller hockey game was held at Guangzhou Foreign Languages School, and the "First Cross-Strait Youth Roller Hockey Carnival" event kicked off.
The reporter learned at the scene that the theme of the "First Cross-Strait Youth Roller Skating Carnival" was "Two Sides of the Taiwan Straits United in Heart, Roller Dance of Youth", and the young athletes participating in the event came from Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
According to Chen Bo-han, head coach of the Roller Skating Committee of the Tainan Sports Federation, a total of 40 Taiwanese youth athletes came to participate in the event. Among them, the roller hockey team composed of students from 20 primary and secondary schools such as Tainan No. 1 Senior High School and Guiren Primary School will compete with 11 youth roller skating teams sent by the Guangzhou Ice Hockey Association, Hong Kong Giant Wheel Sports and Arts Association Co., Ltd., and the Macau Inline Roller Skating Association, divided into three age groups: U12, U14, and U18. Chen Bo-han said: "I hope that through exchange activities, athletes from both sides of the Taiwan Strait participating in this project can achieve better and better results. At the same time, I also hope that young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait can have the opportunity to see the world through this project."
Guo Jianliang, head coach of the Guangzhou Nansha District Roller Skating Team, also expressed the hope that through this carnival event, the cultural and sports exchanges between the young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will be enhanced and their understanding will be deepened. He said: "The carnival event allows our players to get in touch with more high-level teams, which will encourage everyone to train more actively and continuously improve their level." Coaches from Guangzhou and Taiwan said that in addition to exchanges between athletes on the field, coaches from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will also exchange in technical training, teaching methods, and the cultivation of team awareness.
Zhao Shikuan, a player of the Tainan City Roller Skating Committee, started roller hockey in 2017. He said: "This is my second time in Guangzhou. I am impressed by the tall buildings here. I look forward to learning from the mainland players in terms of technology through this exchange." He also told reporters that when he came to Guangzhou to participate in a friendly match last time, he also exchanged contact information with a Guangzhou player and looked forward to meeting him in this exchange event.
Yang Gengyou, a player from the Tainan City Roller Skating Committee, said that he hoped to exchange jerseys with the mainland players after the game as a souvenir. Dong Yisu, a forward from Taiwan, told reporters that this time he found the competition with slightly older mainland players interesting and challenging, and he was looking forward to the competitions in the next few days.
"They are very fast and their skills are very attractive," said Huang Zhiheng, a member of the Guangzhou miracle team, when talking about Taiwan's young athletes. "We still have a gap in technology with them and we need to learn from them." Huang Zhiheng also mentioned that the teams from Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong have chosen different playing styles and tactical coordination in the sport of roller hockey, and he looks forward to gaining more experience in future exchange competitions.
At the launching ceremony, Wang Shitong, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government. He said that the "First Cross-Strait Youth Roller Skating Carnival" event takes communication, communication and integration as the main line, and sports exchanges as the medium, to build a good platform for young people on both sides of the strait to learn from each other and develop together. Guangzhou will always uphold the concept of "One Family Across the Strait" and build a better life stage for Taiwanese youth to pursue, build and realize their dreams in Guangzhou. Jiang Cangyuan, chairman of the Roller Skating Committee of the Tainan City Sports Federation, expressed his hope that through sports exchange activities, Taiwan youth will further understand and know Guangzhou, and continuously enhance Taiwan youth’s identification with China’s excellent traditional culture and the concept of “One Family on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait”, so as to make new contributions to promoting exchanges and integration between young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
At the launching ceremony on the same day, Guangzhou Foreign Languages School Education Group and Tainan Cross-Strait Economic and Cultural Exchange Association, Guangzhou Ice Hockey Association and Tainan Sports Federation Roller Skating Committee signed cooperation and construction agreements respectively.
It is understood that the "First Cross-Strait Youth Roller Skating Carnival" will last for 6 days. During this period, the organizers will also organize movie parties, players' nights and other interactive activities for young people on both sides of the strait, visit the Guangzhou Lingnan culture and intangible cultural heritage display area, cross-strait exchange bases and exchange points, and many Guangzhou landmark buildings, so as to get closer to Guangzhou and understand Guangzhou.
The "First Cross-Strait Youth Roller Skating Carnival" event is guided by the Exchange Bureau of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the Guangdong Cross-Strait Exchange Promotion Association, co-organized by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism Bureau, Guangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau, and Tainan Cross-Strait Economic and Cultural Exchange Association, and co-sponsored by the Guangzhou Ice Hockey Association and the Roller Skating Committee of the Tainan Sports Federation.
