Guinness officially announced that Justin O'Donnell, a US Marine veteran suffering from insomnia, played World of Warcraft for 78.5 hours in a row, setting a new record for the longest gaming time in the world.

According to the rules of the "Longest Marathon" record, Justin had a five-minute break after every hour of gaming - only during this time could he take a nap, eat or go to the bathroom. In fact, Justin didn't sleep at all. He said he didn't really need to rest, but he used this time to stretch, play with his dog and make burgers. He completed the record attempt with 80 minutes of uninterrupted time.

Justin currently streams full-time on Twitch and donates 100% of his proceeds to charity, while working part-time as a developer to cover his daily expenses. During this record attempt, he and his viewers raised more than $3,000 for the Husky House in New Jersey. Since 2020, he has personally donated more than $100,000.

Another reason Justin streams his games is so his viewers can "see what happens when people struggle with insomnia." He said: "I'm physically tired, but not as tired mentally. I don't suffer from a lot of the common problems that come with being awake for a long time, like drowsiness and hearing voices. Some people start to slur their speech and can even be mistaken for being drunk - I don't usually run into those situations."

Justin's sleep problems began after he became homeless in 2005. He later joined the Marines and served until 2010, but he says serving in the military made his insomnia worse. He sometimes went 200 hours without sleep and slept only 15 hours a week. With the new treatment, he now gets about 2-4 hours of sleep a night.
