Gustave Jean Jacquet(1846-May 25, 1909) was a distinguished French painter, known for his portraits, genre paintings and watercolors. Jacquet was a student of the famous academic painter William Bouguereau, and his work was strongly influenced by Bouguereau, but he soon developed his own unique artistic style.

He first exhibited La Rêverie at the Paris Salon in 1865, and the following year began to produce small-scale paintings depicting details of life in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, works that demonstrate his precise capture of historical detail and his deep understanding of characters.

Jacquet's painting skills reached their peak in 1880, and his works are characterized by vitality, expressiveness, freshness and fine color. In particular, his paintings of women, focusing not only on the heroine's facial expressions but also on the smallest details of their clothes, capture the beauty and elegance of the 16th to 18th centuries.

His portraits were very popular at the time and he is considered one of the pre-eminent portrait painters in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In 1875, Jacquet was awarded the Medal of Excellence and in 1879 he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, a recognition of his artistic achievements. He had a very successful artistic career and produced many fine paintings that won him widespread acclaim.

After Jacquet's death in 1909, all the contents of his studio, including more than 250 works of art, were sold at auction on November 29 of that year.

Today, his works are considered masterpieces of fine art and are held in public and private collections around the world, including galleries in Blois, Brooklyn, Chicago, New York, Paris, Rouen, and elsewhere.
