What are the characteristics of screws? They have strength and hardness. Luo Shifang, nicknamed "Little Screw", showed her dominance in her first Olympic Games with her strong strength, which made all her opponents despair. She broke the Olympic record three times and won the gold medal, giving people a sense of "stable happiness".
The women's 59kg class was considered to be a fiercely competitive competition before the competition. The Tokyo Olympic 59kg and 64kg champions Kuo Hsing-chun from Chinese Taipei, Canadian athlete Moder, and former world record holder Konotop from Ukraine were all on the list. But Luo Shifang did not give her opponent a chance. She lifted all 101, 105, and 107kg in the snatch, and won the championship in advance after conquering 129 and 134kg in the first two attempts of the clean and jerk. She gave up the third attempt, thus rewriting all three Olympic records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total score of this level.
"I had my period in the past few days. Before the game, I thought that this might be the most difficult game in my sports career, so I was fully prepared." Luo Shifang's stable performance is the inevitable result of "controlling details". "I really made sufficient preparations for difficulties. On the one hand, I didn't expect that all my attempts would be successful. I thought that one or two attempts would fail. On the other hand, I thought that I might encounter some minor injuries and accidents during the competition. The most difficult preparation was that I estimated before the game that I had to reach 110 kg in the snatch and 140 kg in the clean and jerk, that is, to break the world record for the total score to win the championship. So I went through it many times in my mind, thinking about how to solve any problems that might arise." After making sufficient preparations, Luo Shifang found that the competition was much simpler than expected. "I will give myself 100 points for winning the Olympic gold medal." She said with a smile.
Luo Shifang was not nervous at all for her first Olympic Games. She was very excited and enjoyed the Olympic stage. "Although my opponents were very strong, I was very excited as soon as I got on the stage. Others might be afraid and retreat when faced with a challenge, but I thought, oh, this is interesting, let me conquer it. When I won the gold medal, I thought I would cry, but I didn't."
Luo Shifang is not a "natural" athlete. How much effort does it take for an athlete with little innate strength to conquer the weightlifting platform? Luo Shifang tells you the answer. "I have always known that I am a little 'innately deficient'. I can only squat 180 kg. My senior sister Chen Guiming, who is at the same level as me, can squat 200 kg. My former teammates in the provincial team who were in the 55 kg class can also squat 185 kg. I am a 59 kg athlete and cannot compare with them. If I want to achieve good results, I can only work harder than others. When others are resting, I may still be training. Knowing that I have poor recovery ability and poor resistance, I protect myself very well. In order to prevent colds, I always wear a mask to reduce all possibilities of getting sick."
As she grew up, Luo Shifang has been fighting against fate. "To put it nicely, fate is in my own hands. To put it bluntly, I am a stubborn person. For example, if I didn't do something well today, others would ask me what to do. My reaction is, 'Don't think about it, just get up and do it.' I try my best to change, try, and break through."
Luo Shifang's tenacity is related to her upbringing and personality. She has been very responsible since she was a child. "Since I can remember, probably in kindergarten, when I was about four or five years old, I found that I knew more than others. I also started to share the burden for my family from a very young age." Luo Shifang's initial insistence on weightlifting was to shoulder the burden for her family. "When I first started weightlifting, I could decide whether to stay or leave after about a month of training. The coach told me that if I studied, I might have to wait until I graduated from college and got a job to make money, but if I practiced weightlifting, if I practiced well, I could have my own salary before the age of 16. Because my family conditions were not very good, I wanted to reduce the burden on my family, so I chose to continue practicing." But as time went on, Luo Shifang fell in love with weightlifting. "Weightlifting is a cool sport. When you lift a weight that others can't lift over your head, the release of pressure is addictive. And constantly surpassing yourself is cool in itself."
When reporters asked Luo Shifang why she gave up the last attempt, she confidently responded: "My arm felt painful when I was doing the clean and jerk, so I didn't do it again to prevent injury. I still have the Los Angeles Olympics to play, so don't worry." (From page 04 of China Sports Daily on August 9)
