[Xinhua News Agency Micro Special] A South Korean food delivery platform said on the 9th that it will use robots to deliver food in the capital Seoul and surrounding cities within the year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the food delivery platform is called Baemin and is affiliated to the "Elegant Brothers" company. Since 2019, it has been testing robot food delivery services in airports, large office buildings, apartment buildings, parks and other places, with the testing sites concentrated in Seoul.
In a statement on the 9th, the company said that the food delivery robot "Dilly" on the platform has recently obtained the safety certification of the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency and is expected to be put into use within the year. However, the company did not disclose the number of robots it plans to deploy, nor did it announce a deployment schedule.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea is one of the world's largest food delivery markets, which is related to the high population density and smartphone penetration rate in major cities such as Seoul. Baemin's food delivery platform is believed to account for 60% of the market share in South Korea. (End) (Yang Shuyi)
