It is understood that the admission letter for the 2024 freshmen of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts was designed by Zhu Zhiping, vice dean of the School of Visual Arts and Design, and alumnus Chang Weijie.
Zhu Zhiping told reporters that receiving the admission letter is a crucial moment for freshmen in their pursuit of their artistic dreams and is a testimony to the rewards of years of unremitting efforts. "We thought we must give the children a celebration ceremony so that they can feel the college's welcome and blessings when they receive the admission letter, so we finally chose fireworks."

"Our school is an art school. I want to make the admission letter more design-oriented. I also hope that it is not just a piece of paper, but more of a gift that can interact with the new students or the students who receive it." Chang Weijie said that he was willing to devote himself to the design because he had never received such an admission letter and wanted to make up for the regret. "Seeing my younger classmates posting pictures so happily is the greatest affirmation of the designer."
Zhu Zhiping said that the college designed the admission letter based on the shape of the fireworks tube and the intangible cultural heritage skill of "dragon scale binding". (Note: "Dragon scale binding" is the binding form of ancient books from scroll binding to album binding, also in the shape of a cylinder) The main color of the letter box is the deep "blue" of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, which is the standard color of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, the color of the letter box is distinguished between undergraduates and postgraduates. Undergraduate freshmen are silver, and postgraduate freshmen are gold.

He said that due to safety regulations on the mailing method of admission letters, fireworks can not be transported by high-speed rail or air. Therefore, the college had a lot of communication with the post office before implementing this design.
"Fireworks are ejected through wall pressure, so the safety of firework tubes is relatively high," said Zhu Zhiping. "They don't need to be transported by air, so although it takes a little longer to ship, it's acceptable."
Chang Weijie said that the production also encountered many difficulties, such as the selection of fireworks and paper. "In order to ensure the effect of the fireworks, we selected many kinds of ribbons, and finally decided to use the current larger sequins, which are convenient to unscrew and clean." He said, "The design of the dragon scale package also takes into account that students can quickly flatten the admission letter after opening it. We tested many kinds of paper, and the one we use now is called synthetic paper. It is not actually paper, but a PP material."

In addition, the dragon scale design also requires that the inner pages of the admission letter must be posted manually one by one. "We made nearly 2,200 (admission letters) in total, so the production cycle will be relatively long and the labor cost is the highest." Zhu Zhiping said, but such an admission letter can bring great emotional value to students. It is not only reflected in the moment of opening it, but this memory will also inspire them in the future learning process.
