Sony announced that PlayStation Studios plans to "continuously" release blockbuster games and will optimize its development process and release schedule to this end.

However, this is in stark contrast to Sony's previous admissions of trouble, as the PlayStation studio struggled to maintain sustainable profit margins and made large-scale layoffs despite successful games such as Ghost of Tsushima for PC and The Last of Us Part II: Remake.

In its recent financial report, Sony stated that it will strengthen development plan management and optimize development projects to continue to launch popular games and maintain and expand the number of active PlayStation users to establish a stable profit foundation.

Although PS5 has sold 61.7 million units worldwide, sales are slowing down rapidly. Sony's Q3 profit was $10.2 billion, but it fell 25.9% year-on-year.

Sony has yet to release any major games this year, but has announced several exclusives including "Overwatch," "Astro Robo" and "Lego Horizon." PlayStation Plus memberships are down, in part because of player dissatisfaction with the game library.

The recent State of Play generated a lot of discussion and was considered not as exciting as previous launches. It remains to be seen whether Sony can deliver on its promises while avoiding further layoffs.
