When it comes to retirement homes, I believe many people first think of two elderly people living there. But in fact, with the faster pace of life and greater work pressure, many young people have begun to plan their retirement lives in advance.

For example, the owner of the house below wanted to enjoy the retirement life in advance while he was still young. Therefore, when decorating the new house, he used a lot of rustic and wabi-sabi elements in the space. From the finished effect, it is not only elegant but also full of Zen as soon as you enter the door.

Plan structure diagram

This case is located in Shenzhen, with an area of 105 square meters and a compact three-bedroom layout. The owner is a couple. As mentioned above, their expectations for the space are:I yearn for a Zen and wabi-sabi living environment. I also like to practice calligraphy, burn incense, drink tea, and collect some interesting gadgets.

The original apartment layout was very conventional and could basically meet the owner's living needs, but some spaces still had some flaws, so some corresponding treatments were also made during the layout renovation.

Floor plan

Combined with the needs of the homeowner, the space layout is transformed as follows

1. Move the kitchen door to the dining room to avoid intersection with the entrance hall traffic line.

2. Expand the guest bathroom area, adopt a three-separation structure layout, and integrate washing and drying equipment.

3. The door opening of the second bedroom is moved horizontally to meet the space requirements of the built-in wardrobe.

Entrance

There is a small entrance hall with excellent lighting right after entering the house. Shoe cabinets are designed on both sides, and a shoe-changing bench is designed by the window, which is comfortable and practical. The floor is paved with matte gray tiles, the walls are painted with warm white latex paint, and the embellishment of dead wood, pottery, cotton and linen, pine and other material elements seems to give a glimpse of the epitome of the whole home, which is very simple and wabi-sabi, and full of Zen.

The kitchen window on the left side of the entrance is made of a double-window structure made of grille material, which not only maximizes the light entering the room, but also further emphasizes the antique charm, as if time has become quiet.

Dining room

Through the entrance is the dining room, which is combined with a center island and dining table, and matched with a sideboard. The entire space is neat and tidy, while retaining a comfortable flow of movement.

Part of the ceiling is made of solid wood, which is consistent with the material of the dining table, shoe bench, and sideboard. It not only echoes the spatial elements, but also effectively elevates the spatial level.

The biggest highlight of the entire restaurant is the rustic stone table legs, which not only blend in with the style of the space, but also emphasize the original charm of the wabi-sabi style. The choice of four rattan dining chairs not only highlights the natural atmosphere, but also echoes a hint of medieval style.

The sideboard is designed with a split structure, which meets the daily storage needs and undertakes part of the kitchen functionality. The various utensils and tea sets on the storage cabinet fully reflect the owner's attitude towards life and also play a role in rendering the space.

The corridor wall is decorated with a painting to make the wall not too monotonous. The decorative painting does not need to be too complicated, simple black and white is more advanced and very consistent with the temperament of the space.

living room

The living room and dining room are separated by floor materials, which can make the space area more fresh and coordinated. Compared with the dining room, the living room emphasizes black, white and gray elements, which not only makes the tone of the space have a smooth transition, but also does not make the space look too dull.

The arc treatment is used at the joints of the wall and ceiling, which is very detailed. It not only adds a touch of softness to the space, but also visually stretches the height of the floor.

Abandoning the traditional TV wall and designing a set of storage cabinets is more practical. No matter how many sundries there are at home, they can be broken down here. At the same time, the projection equipment hidden on the ceiling also facilitates occasional movie watching needs.

study

The small room on the north side is used as a study after a part of the space is divided for the bathroom. It is also the favorite space of the owner. The whole room is raised with tatami and installed with sliding doors with log veneer, which immediately gives it the style of a small Japanese Zen room.

As a retirement home, the study room does not necessarily have to be used for office work, but more for one's own hobbies. Therefore, the use of elements such as futons, desks, and soulful Japanese grilles not only reflects the owner's yearning for a poetic life, but also reveals a touch of Zen everywhere.

When light and shadow pass through the grille, the indoor atmosphere is immediately sublimated. Even if you stay here quietly for an afternoon, your body, mind and emotions can be satisfied. It is really comfortable.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom follows the rustic theme and creates an extremely peaceful and tranquil atmosphere through large areas of white space, rattan, wood color and other elements.

The bay window sill is treated with wood veneer and a table is placed on it, which not only extends the leisure area but also creates an excellent corner for relaxation.

There is not much decoration at the end of the bed, only a quaint clothes hanger is added, which is simple and functional as a laundry area.

Details of the wardrobe are shown. The open compartment design at the bottom of the cabinet can prevent the space from appearing too crowded and also provide a natural display spot.

Second bedroom

Since the second bedroom is relatively small, a tatami couch is added near the window, so that it can be used for storage or as a temporary guest room. A minimalist desk is both a craft area and an occasional office area.

bathroom

Looking at the whole case, it really makes people feel like retiring early. Whether it is the overall design of the whole house or the selection of individual products, they are closely connected with the theme of the space, and they fully demonstrate the comfort and freedom that retirement life should have, which is great.
