Infertility has become a major concern for couples trying to have a baby. So what are the signs of male infertility and what aspects do men need to pay attention to?

1. Feeling a mass on the side of the testicle

Gently touch the spermatic cord from top to bottom. If you feel a worm-like, curved and soft mass in the scrotum, be careful, as it may be varicocele. Varicocele accounts for 19%-41% of male infertility. It can cause the temperature of the testicles to rise, and the congestion of venous blood can affect the nutrient delivery of the testicles, thereby affecting spermatogenesis and causing a decline in the quality of semen.

2. Testicular swelling and pain

If the testicles are swollen and painful, and then shrink after the pain subsides, this is likely testicular torsion or traumatic atrophy caused by orchitis. This is usually accompanied by severe damage to spermatogenic cells. If the testicles do not descend into the scrotum but remain in the abdominal cavity, it is cryptorchidism. If the testicles are in the abdominal cavity, the high temperature is very unfavorable for sperm production and increases the risk of testicular malignancy.

3. Abnormal semen

Normal semen should be off-white or light yellow. If it is flesh pink or red, it is bloody semen. The normal amount of semen is 2~6ml. More than 7ml is considered too much. Not only will the density of sperm decrease, but it will also easily flow out of the female vagina, resulting in a decrease in the total amount of sperm. If the total amount of semen is less than 2ml, it is considered a small amount of semen. Less than 1ml is considered too little, which is very likely to cause infertility.

Generally speaking, semen will become liquid 15 to 30 minutes after ejaculation. If it does not change its form after more than half an hour, it is clinically called "semen liquefaction", which is also one of the causes of infertility.
