According to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency reported on August 9 that as ASEAN celebrates its 57th anniversary, Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat, recently stated that with the rapid development of the macro-economy, ASEAN is expected to rise from the current fifth largest economy in the world to the fourth largest economy in 2030.

Sa said that the trade volume among ASEAN countries has increased from US$2.3 trillion in 2015 to US$3.5 trillion in 2023. ASEAN is one of the few regions in the world where the internal trade volume is basically equal to the total GDP, and is higher than the bilateral trade volume with China or the United States. ASEAN has become the world's largest trading area, and has continuously increased trade exchanges with other regions, continuing to practice its commitment to become a global trade and investment open economy. In the southern hemisphere, ASEAN is the largest recipient of foreign direct investment, attracting nearly US$230 billion in foreign direct investment in 2023.

It is predicted that in the next few years, industries that will see significant growth in ASEAN include semiconductors, agriculture, data equipment, and minerals and metals. Its technological transformation and advanced technology industries such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things will bring an output value of US$8 trillion, which is extremely attractive.
