Every Chinese Valentine’s Day, young people always want to give something different as a gift, and “niche” becomes the key word in gift-giving.
According to Tmall Global data, music CDs, motorcycle helmets, and handmade wine utensils have become the three new popular gifts for the Chinese Valentine's Day. In the two weeks before the Chinese Valentine's Day, the overall transaction volume of imported music CDs increased by 1,200% month-on-month. Tmall Global currently sells more than 400 kinds of original imported CDs and vinyl records. Including CDs of top singers and producers such as Jay Chou, Taylor Swift, Adele, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as classical music such as "Vivaldi: The Four Seasons" and the concert album "Eagles Live" and other collector's edition vinyl records.
Young people are increasingly focusing on "personalization" when choosing gifts for the Chinese Valentine's Day. Since the beginning of this year, the European Cup and the Olympic Games have led to the popularity of various outdoor sports such as football and tennis. The motorcycle trend has also become popular on social media. Another representative of imported niche gifts, "motorcycle helmets", has seen a 259% increase in sales on Tmall International in the past two weeks.
