Xie Zhenye's name did not appear in the first round list of the men's 200m at the Paris Olympics.
On August 5, Paris time, the track and field events of the Paris Olympics entered the fifth day of competition, and the first round of the men's 200m was one of the highlights of the day. However, in the final list of participants announced by the organizing committee, Xie Zhenye's name was not seen in any of the six groups.
This means that when Xie Zhenye finally chooses not to participate in this event, as the only Chinese sprinter qualified to participate, the Chinese team will also miss the men's 200m event at the Paris Olympics.
On August 3, Xie Zhenye was eliminated in the first round of the men's 100m track and field at the Paris Olympics.
In fact, just two days ago, in the first round of the men's 100m, Xie Zhenye ran 10.16 seconds, but ultimately failed to qualify for the semifinals as his performance was one thousandth lower than his opponent. At that time, Xie Zhenye admitted that he was very disappointed with this result.
"It was very painful waiting for the top three to be replaced. In the end, my score was one thousandth of a second behind the third place, and I was ranked fourth among all the remaining players. So I was eliminated." Xie Zhenye said in an interview, "Anyway, I will look forward and compete well later."
Xie Zhenye's dissatisfaction with his 100m performance is understandable. According to The Paper reporter's information from various sources close to the Chinese track and field team, Xie Zhenye, who has been training with foreign coach Renault this season, has been in good shape. In March this year, he ran a time of 10.06 seconds. Coach Renault is also optimistic about Xie Zhenye's performance in the Olympics and once said that he could show his training ability on the track in Paris.
It is a bit regrettable that Xie Zhenye failed to successfully advance to the 100m semi-finals. After the game, he said that he might not participate in the 200m competition. "I am not sure yet. I have to wait for the team to arrange it."
It is worth mentioning that among the three events that Xie Zhenye originally signed up for, he qualified for the 100m event based on his points, and he got a direct entry into the 200m event. In the men's 200m Olympic group competition at the Tom Jones Track and Field Invitational in April this year, Xie Zhenye finished third with a time of 20.15 seconds, successfully meeting the Paris Olympics standard.
The 200m was once Xie Zhenye's main event, but after focusing more on the 100m and 4x100m relay in the past few years, Xie Zhenye has participated in the 200m less and less. After setting the best Chinese record of 19.88 in London in 2019, Xie Zhenye has rarely had the opportunity to run under 20 seconds in major competitions. This year's 20.15 is also the only official result he has achieved this season.
For Xie Zhenye, giving up the 200 meters means that he will focus all his remaining time and energy on the 4×100m relay in Paris this time.

At the 2024 World Relays in May this year, the men's 4×100m relay team composed of Wu Zhiqiang, Xie Zhenye, Yan Haibin and Chen Jiapeng finished second in the group with a time of 38.25 seconds, winning a direct qualification for the Paris Olympics.
When Su Bingtian decided to give up the Paris Olympics due to age and injury, 30-year-old Xie Zhenye took on the responsibility of leading the sprint. While the Chinese men's and women's sprint teams are experiencing the "blood transfusion pain" during this Paris Olympic cycle, Xie Zhenye once revealed that he hopes to drive the Chinese sprint to continue to accelerate through good performance in the relay.
According to the competition schedule, the first round of the men's 4×100m relay is scheduled for the morning of August 8, Paris time. At present, the list of participants and the final grouping have not been announced.
