Alexei said thousands of people had left the area in the past 24 hours.

Speaking to members of the Russian government about the attack in Kursk Oblast, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incursion as a "massive provocation" and that Ukrainian forces were "indiscriminately shooting at civilian buildings, residential buildings and ambulances using a variety of weapons, including missiles."
